IMO TP plays a little slower than AP, but it could be the surfaces reacting differently to the weather during the respective meets. AP-spring/summer...TP-fall/WINTER.

The debate won out over Turfway at 10:00 on a Thursday night. Watched at home, though, hope she enjoys her vacation, well-deserved.

Otto is a jock that rides at tracks like Turfway, Thistle and maybe Beaulah.
A jock wins a race for you at 35-1 you tend to remember.

search results:

Jockey Thorwarth scores 1,000th victory

Jockey Otto Thorwarth earned his 1,000th career victory on Saturday when he guided Simon Peter to a 4 1/4-length victory in the fourth race at Beulah Park.

The Mercer Mill colt stalked the pace from four wide, rallied on the far turn, and dueled with Fine Prince for the lead. Simon Peter surged clear in the stretch en route to the milestone victory.

Thorwarth began riding professionally in 1992 and earned his first stakes victory a year later with Front Line Only in the Rainbow Miss Stakes at Oaklawn Park.

Through March 31, Thorwarth was the second leading jockey by wins at Beulah Park with 47 victories from 280 mounts that earned $241,801.

Met three partners for the first time. A fun nite overall. Thanks to Chuck and Steve for the home town start.
would hate to see her saddled at hawthorne for instance. that could get real ugly in thier setup and dangerous for all

TP and AP have totally different mixtures of polytrack. They had to switch Turfway's due to the wax balling up in colder weather. The balls of it were sticking to the hooves and shoes and making it like a skating rink.
Turfway and Woodbine have the same mix (so form holds between those two). Arlington's is the same mix as Keeneland and Del Mar, so form on those surfaces translate too. Going from TP or WB to one of the other 3's a crapshoot, as form normally doesn't translate, due to it being a different surface (even though both are types of polytrack).

Thanks for the info on the difference.

Exactly Right. With their longest continuous meet running from late Nov. thru early april the weather is very erratic. During the period mid-December to early March the mixture must be able to handle sub-freezing temps without clumping because it will be 50 deg. and sunny one day and 25 deg. and snowy the next. With Day racing on the weekends, with the sun warming the track, and nite racing during week it's tough to get a handle on this surface.

Keeneland gives extremely detailed information about their track maintenance daily on their on-track tote boards (I don't know if it's available on their site) - when gallopmaster was used, depth of harrowing, watering (how long), and 3:00pm polytrack temperature measured at 4 inches depth. That, along with having some good info on every race ever run on Poly on their site. For the valued handicapper, they say.

I've spent the last two days at Keeneland, there's plenty of money to be had.
