Re-read my post again. In my opinion, Spectacular Bid is arguably the greatest horse of all-time. Put it this way....if I ever had to vote for who I believe was the greatest horse ever...he would be the horse who gets my vote...albeit reluctantly. I totally agree that horses should be judged based upon what they show on the race track....just as sires and broodmares should be judged based upon what they throw and prouduce in the breeding shed. |

![]() I spent my high school weekends walking horses for D Wayne, and i got to walk Terlingua a few times and Great Lady M also. They were both wicked fast. I agree with Cannon Shell on Pine Tree Lane also. She sent Groovy back to New York with his tail waggin with a 43 half in the 86 BC. Very Subtle also gave Groovy a good ol feminie but whuppin.
Not sure if anyone remembers Ski Goggle, but she was one fast filly too. She was undefeated and shipped out to Belmont to face Princess Rooney in the Acorn i believe, and promtly ran her off her feet. |

![]() I remember Pine Tree Lane's debut. I believe it was at Aqueduct in the winter, but it may have been the Fall, and she was owned by Teddy Sabresse and trained by Parisella. Anyway, I was in the OTB on John Street, which was one of the first, if not the first, OTB in Manhattan to show a live video feed. The horses are going to the gate, and mind you this is late 1984 or early 1985, so late odds changes, especially substantial ones, were rare at best, and she went from 7-1 to 9-2.
They didn't even need to run the race. |

![]() Pine Tree Lane was later sold in the Horses of racing Age sale at Saratoga where Lukas bought her. I remember seeing her in the ring that day.

![]() I remember Jones Time Machine in California before her New York invasion. She was a fast one too. And getting back to Balletos ATF Crimson Saint. The first horse i ever groomed was Terlinguas baby brother Pancho Villa. Broke his maiden 2nd out paying like a 100 bucks. Then hooked Phone Trick in a nw1. Then we went to Aqueduct and beat Spend a Buck in the Bay Shore. Sorry for rambling, but Crimson Saint not only was fast but threw some fast runners.

![]() Ok Balleto, just a little tidbit about Terlingua. Wayne always called her "Beefcake". She was muscle on top of muscle. I did not know much about Crimson Saint, but Wayne would sometimes remark that CS passed on her soundness problems to Terlingua. I would spend alot of mornings hosing down her legs after she trained. On the other hand, Pancho had legs like steel pipes. He later developed throat problems which shortened his carear.

![]() I remember Pancho Villa shipping in for the Bay Shore. In those days " D Wayne off the Plane " was gold. He jogged and paid $35.

![]() Hey BTW, i remember when we were cooling out Pancho Villa after finishing 2nd to Phone Trick in that Nw1. Wayne said Alan, were getting the hell away from that Phone Trick, he's the fastest horse in america. Were going to show them New Yorkers what california speed is. I just remembered that because you mentioned D Wayne off the Plane..
