Default nyra

I just don't think they guys running the ship get it.

There was no reason in the world not to run yesterday.

You had a 930k carryover for the pick 6 , could have been a big day on a Sunday in Elmont.

You are not going to get a Triple Crown possiblity every year. Mr Handel please put Sunday after Belmont back on the calendar

Do Hal Handel a favor and show up 45 minutes after the 13th next year and start cleaning the place, then they'll be ready to go for Sunday's card.

it's NY , they do it at the garden , the baseball stadiums , the football stadiums (alright that is jersey ) , heck they even do it at the SPA , you can't tell me they can't have the place ready to go Sunday after a big 13 card race , it's impossible

Seriously, your post is just proof of what depths people with an axe to grind will stoop. I figured if we were going to get anything from you today it would have to do with Dominguez, but instead you're taking NYRA to task for not running on the day after the Belmont.

Amazing.

Did I miss this same thread about Churchill ( they had a considerably bigger carryover ) and Pimlico when they were closed after their legs of the Triple Crown?

NYRA ran 10 cards in 11 days. Where were the horses going to come from for the 11th of 12?

The hypocrisy is really amusing.

Churchill gets a pass as they do 2 of the biggest days in a row on Fri and Sat

Pimlico is just as bad for not running on Sunday.

As a fan of ny racing , how can they run every sunday at the spa , after huge saturdays and not run the sunday after the belmont makes completely no sense

to say they can't do it is non-sense , they used to run the sunday after the belmont all the time

It just gets funnier and funnier.

" NYRA should do what Monmouth is doing. "

" NYRA should close in the Winter "

" NYRA should run 11 of 12 days "

And, frankly, on the internet it actually gets worse than that.

I'm happy to have 4 days to work on the carryover. I would not have been able to play it if they ran yesterday, but I will definitely dive in on Wednesday.

please explain why they can't run on sunday when they used to in the past

all your above comments do nothing to look at the facts about sunday

to say no horses are able to run is comical

I was nice to you recently, and took the time to explain something to you in a PM, and you never even gave me the courtesy of a response. You are a mouthpiece here for a banned member.

If there wasn't a carryover would you feel the same way?

yes

nyra runs on sunday after the travers . it is a successful day , they have a grade 1 , there is no reason they can't run at belmont , or we supposed to believe that if they run on sunday they would lose money ??? i find that hard to believe

todd pletcher won 6 races in a row a few years ago on a sunday after the belmont , i think it was the year after smarty jones won , if i remember correct they had a pretty good size crowd there that day

Based on what measure? Saratoga is a freaking ghost town the day after Travers.

Yeah and there are still 5 times more people there than there would be at Belmont on Sunday. LOL!

joey , are you going to tell me that don't make money the sunday after the travers? you don't think steve , et al, vendors want NYRA to be open every sunday during the meet ?

isn't making money the point of the operation?

outside of travers day , my guess is the best days at the spa are the 1st 2 weeks, in genreal after the travers my guess is that those weeks don't do as well as the 1st 2 weeks

there is no way that travers day and it's undercard matches up to what belmont park just provided on saturday. and if nyra used to run the day after, and now they don't, one would have to think they had a very, very good reason to make the change.

Having a major race day on a Saturday has no direct correlation to handle performance on Sunday.

Here are the Sunday handles for Sunday's in May on a national level...

5/2/10 - 45,330,842
5/9/10 - 42,532,055
5/16/10 - 44,348,464
5/23/10 - 44,039,399
5/30/10 - 48,772,526

Sunday's typically handle less than Friday's believe it or not. Handle on Sunday is less than the corresponding Thursday more than you might think as well.

The point is Sunday is a quiet day reserved for hardcore players, die hards and the regulars.

The only Sunday after a big race day where I've seen a busier than usual on-track crowd is the day after Derby. In that case, the Derby serves as a good marketing vehicle the day before and creates added interest.

Belmont closing is no where close to the wrong move. They're not passing-up any unusual chance for a big day. And when you factor in employee morale after a big day and long week, it makes more sense.

Besides, who has any money left after Champagne d'Oro, Winchester and Drosselmeyer all win?

Of course this is all just a matter of opinion but Travers day and its undercard usually matchup pretty well to Belmont day's card. The difference is that Saratoga averages upwards of 25k people on Sundays and Belmont averages about 5k.

no doubt it's a nice card, but is it 13 races? at any rate, i can understand taking off the day after an undertaking like that. and between spring and fall, belmont won't miss a sunday card, whereas i'd think saratoga would.
