Question is, what should be my bet(s) of choice? I'm thinkin straight win, pick 3's. I'm gonna budget myself to $200 a day max. Am I crazy or would you consider doing the same thing? Have any of you done something similar?

there is a way to win. however it requires the discipline that no gambler has. the ability to limit your betting.

the answer is: you select one race for the day and go for it!

Ok if anyone cares I read all the advice and decided on Preakness day to start, try again on Sunday and then see how it felt.

I can't go like that. I was a nervous wreck and could not stop thinking about my bills, etc.. I'll gamble a little on the weekends but I need to focus my energy on the job, deciding on if I am going to move to Florida or stay put, etc..

Thanks for the advice everyone.

That'll be $50 to everyone and we'll see you next week for a follow up.

Can anyone who contributed advice get the $50? Kind of like the townspeople in the movie "Funny Farm".

Listen to some good music, and maybe buy some more music along the way.

I'm not prescribing or recommending anything I haven't done before.

Any other pursuits besides drinking, gambling, listening to music and/or chasing women will just be a waste of time.

Go for the glory while you've got the time, opportunity and motive.

Those stars don't align often in the lifetime of most.

Take a taste, and chew it well.

If it doesn't work out, just say "f-it" and come back again with a new plan.

At least you will always be able to say you had the nads to take the chance.

Come to Saratoga this summer... I'll buy the first couple of beers

Yes, good luck. Was hoping you were going to post you hit something big at Mountaineer or somewhere but I guess it was not to be. You'll be fine, it's difficult enough to gamble wisely let alone knowing your livelihood depends upon it.
