During the meet a steady stream of people are coming and going but when Breeders' Cup ever came to town everyone would arrive in a 48-72 hour time span

I don't think it would be a problem either. People would just make the proper adjustments on the getting flights in that are direct to Albany but are full. Most would pick up flights that would go through NYC which has flights to and from Albany almost on the hour every hour.

Someone obviously needs to tell you to "be nice."

It was stinking hot this summer.

No I meant racefans. The average number of British and Irish that attend Breeders' Cup is now about 8,000 and that figure would go above 10,000 with more fans from Asia etc.

Albany is over 150 miles from the nearest Domestic/International Hub. Some foreigners will hire cars in Boston or New York or take the train up from Penn Station but the bulk will have to change planes in New York etc and they'll all be trying to get on the same flights that racefans from the US and Canada are trying to get seats on.

Were the blessed event to occur, I thank God and Man o' War that I'd have to board nothing more exotic than my old jalopy in order to attend...assuming I could get seats.

I'm sure Yankee Trails would work out a bunch of buses up from NYC to Saratoga for the BC. Plus the irony of a Yankee Trails bus full of Englishman would be delightful.

We wouldn't go anyway, to cold. We like heaters and big screen tv's after Sept 3rd.

Why couldn't they just limit attendance at Saratoga? Really no big deal on the weather. Chance of bad weather can't be worse than Chicago or Toronto. There's no Gen Admission at Monmouth. What are they capping attendance at? I assume they capped attendence at Lone Star.

As far as I know there is general admission at Monmouth for $50 but you have no seat. I could be wrong about that.

There was not an attendance cap at Lone Star, as the temporary seating expanded the overall capacity. Because of the location and the amenities available, it was not a popular destination for most people and so the attendance stayed so low.

The weather bug is always a tricky one, on BC day at Lone Star it started around 65 degrees but was in the mid-80s by the afternoon and that really drew the ire of out of town guests.

For those of you who were talking about out of town tellers also, I was a teller at Lone Star is 2004 and there were a bunch they trucked in from Gulfstream and other places. They paid them a flat rate and it was good.

For those of us who worked the full meet the daily pay was $500 for BC day.

When I was up there, it just didn't feel that hot to me...

I live in Orlando, though... it's blasted hot here so anything below 90 feels like winter.

The lowest it has gotten here since mid-May is 77 degrees. Once the low hits 70 deg, you'll see the down jackets in Ft Lauderdale and the fur coats in Palm Beach.

It's kinda funny, though...

I actually like the cold weather. When I heard people complaining in Toga about how hot it was, I had to laugh. Florida feels a lot hotter to me, so it was a nice change up there for me.

If the Red Sox and MLB can hammer out the logistics of Fenway Park hosting the All-Star game. Then there is no reason The Breeders Cup comm. and NYRA can't figure out the logistics of Saratoga hosting the BC.

I'm not saying put it in the rotation but at least once, they can do it. There is no other track that deserves hosting more than Saratoga.

I hear that. And, I won't wear my fur coat down here until it gets down to 65 degrees. I do have my standards.

I'd love to see the Breeders Cup in Saratoga. The logistics, the weather, and the lack of closed spaces are exactly the reasons why it doesn't happen.
Could many people brave a 50 degree day? Sure, but even 50 and sunny isn't always the case. That time of the year it could swing either way at least 20 degrees. Imagine 50,000 fans braving a 35-40 degree day? It's just too much of a risk to run it there. BOSWD, you know me, you, and many others could hack sitting out in the picnic area on a cool afternoon, but the majority of the people aren't going to want to do that. In regards to the weather this summer, I went to the track six times and five of those times it was at least 90 or better. Opening day and especially Whitney Day were quite warm and muggy. Drank a lot of beer. Good times.

My belief is that it is NYRA who would be at the top of the list of those who don't want Breeders' Cup to come to Saratoga.

What became more apparent in the past year was the affection that the local community in the Capital Region has for NYRA. That would be eroded if Breeders' Cup comes to town. Breeders' Cup takes over the show completely. $50 General Admission. Probably either not allowed to bring anything in or vastly limited. Concession prices ramped up 50-100%. The local community will feel completely frozen out and will blame NYRA.
