Default TVG discontinues Tampa broadcasts

Despite annual increases on the Tampa Bay DownsThoroughbred signal through its advance deposit wagering(ADW) platform since 2007, the TVG network has chosen not to telecast Thoroughbred racing from the track for the foreseeable future. The Tampa Bay Downs signal continues to be broadcast on a limited basis by HRTV.

Last season alone, as the Tampa Bay Downs signal continued to increase in popularity, $20.2 million was wagered on TBD through TVG, a virtual 33 percent increase from the previous season.

“The ball is in their court,” said Tampa Bay Downs Vice President and General Manager Peter Berube. “They have severely underpaid us for a number of years and we are finally in a position to be compensated at market rates. We are asking them to pay exactly what other market ADWs are paying for our signal.”

No offense Alan, but honestly, who gives a sh*t?

Tampa offers free live video feed on their own website. More tracks should follow suit, but that would make too much sense.

I agree with Kev. 5 years ago, this would be news. Now? Free video on their website and much improved ADW video quality.

I haven't had TVG on since the Saratoga meet ended.

Their loss.

I have to admit, I hate watching the races on the computer, so it is kind of a big deal for me. But honestly they would only show the first couple from Tampa live anyway. Then they pick up Turfway, then various other tracks would start you would get a few Tampa races on delay. By the end of the card you would be lucky just to get results.

I just dont understand why they can't show all the races without all the talking head nonsense. It's inevitable that there will be breaks between races, fill that up with the studio talk and show the damn races when they are run.

Dish Network offers the Roberts Simulcast package - same feeds as the OTB's...Don't know if it worth switching and then paying for it, but it's an option at least. Does TVG carry GP? I figured that would be a HRTV signal since it's a Stronach track... If not, they better hope for an exciting Inner meet.

I like their Hollywood Park coverage, but that meet is over in a couple weeks and then their Cali signal goes away too. Good luck to 'em. Foolish move.

And you won't have to listen to the TVG cast of IDIOTS either!

They need to merge with HRTV or one buy out the other. It is absolutely ridiculous to have two horse racing networks and even more so to have so many talking heads on the payroll for both networks.

Most of them should be unemployed and spending their days at Occupy Los Angeles.

I gotta say that I feel sorry for all American racing fans having to deal with this. Living in Toronto, and only having the HPI (Horse Player Interactive) TV broadcast, that covers all the major tracks all the time including Tampa Bay Downs, Fairgrounds, Cali, New York, Parx, Florida, Woodbine, Australia, Engilsh and Irish, South African, Hong Kong and Japan.... We are really spoiled! Almost no talking heads! and the few heads you get are a nice treat in between the non-stop racing.
Sometimes I feel like complaining about too much racing, but after reading this thread, I'll just shut my trap.
