Question for the circle jerk boys....are you at all concerned with a candidate that says they recieve their instructions on how to live life directly from god?

When answering, please stick to topic and let's see if you can do it without mentioning Obama.

But your contributions to this room have been stupid at best. You and Joey and dino can have your little circle jerk and have the same conversation over and over again. It's not going to change anything.

Same conversation over and over again? Sounds like an Obama press conference - or the nightly news coverage thereof - take your pick.

The topic was Michele Bachman. I presume that whatever one likes or dislikes about her is relevant. No one has made a "Got a crush on Bachmann" song yet like we had to endure with the president during his election campaign.

Oh, and your capitalization needs work. It's capital G-o-d.

I think that would be more rational than a president who thinks he is God.

I love folks who project attributes to others based solely on political beliefs, you volunteer at a homeless shelter and give to charity....those are good attributes and I admire that but yet you are so narrow minded that you seem unable to conceive that folks with a different opinion might not be less. That is my argument with Bachmann and others on the far right...I'm not calling her stupid, just narrow minded and all to willing to deny equal rights to folks different from her. To me, so-called liberals are little different from main stream conservatives, I would have been just as comfortable voting for Condy Rice as Obama had she run. This country is governed from the middle, and I see little chance of that changing....I disagree with many of Obama's politics, just see little reason to spew hate-filled names his direction. One question I have to ask you though....if you see poor folks as "trash", how can you work at a homeless shelter? And, why give money to "good causes" if you feel the way you say? (OK, two questions). Seems like you may be posting more out of frustration than deep rooted conviction.

Wrong. It's President Obama when you use his name as a direct title. It's the president when referring to the office or its occupant indirectly.

And it's God. Consult the first commandment if you're confused.

If you hear voices in your head, that's probably schizophrenia or a bad drug trip, and both are good reasons to see a doctor.

I didn't see the original quote, but I would think there is a difference between someone saying "God spoke to me" versus "God has made His will known to me", and that would have to be a feeling, presumably of inspiration towards the doing of good works for others.

a co worker of mine always talks about how big G speaks to her. I think she's schizophrenic. She told me God told her to look under a box of tissue's to find a scorpion. I personally believe it was free will.

Of course. But intelligence alone doesn't predispose one toward benevolent action. There have been a lot of smart evil people too.

That may apply to Christians but doubt that many Muslims (for example) will take guidance from the Christian Bible. I am guilty of often using lower case "g" when referring to Christian/Jewish deity...don't do it out of disrespect but simply my mindset doesn't equate the term to the Almighty.

Joey, I agree with that...it's not intellect but one's moral compass that dictates behavior....but belief in one specific deity is not the determining factor either.

I think we have left the subject of the thread. I would not believe that only Christians get into heaven. I would guess that all religions center around peace and good will towards others have a good shot.

Those guys screaming "Kill the Infidels" and blowing up planes probably have reason to worry. After all, if God made 6 billion plus people and counting, I don't think He meant for part of them to be prey and part to be predators.

then you get into the whole mind, body and spirit (soul) debate.

i feel most people believe we have a spirit that goes on and on.

but what is it made of and where does it go? where did it come from?

I personally think that your soul is the same as your mind and body and that all three go kaput the day your heart stops beating.

also....

is there more meaning to life on Earth if there IS an afterlife, or if there is NOT an afterlife? wouldnt what you do on earth be more important if it was the end all, not everlasting?

so many interesting questions and answers. I love hearing about other people's beliefs.
