I lost $$, but consider the Kentucky Derby betting a positive. Really.

When I realized I couldn't see an angle I could really sell myself I just put in wagers about 1/3 on what I would ordinarily play on the Kentucky Derby.

And then sat back and enjoyed the race as well as what turned out to be extra $$ in my pocket from backing down the normally allotted wager.

I even took my wife out for nice wine and appetizers as sort of a "victory" celebration with the money I retained from essentially running away on this one.

It's pretty customary for me to only wager on The Kentucky Derby on Derby Day.

Looking at the $947K carryover at Churchill as an opportunity to use my Derby winnings. Hit the tri for a $1, wagering $120.

Didn't lose my complete butt. Just half of it due to a few dollars on Icebox to place which I bet with a lot of trepidation thinking that both he and LAL would probably be taken out of it from the start because of their post positions. Just barely made it home in time to place a bet. Was in NYC all week and flew home Saturday morning through thunderstorms. Feel extremely lucky considering we were all over times square all week.

Didn't even bother to bet. The Derby is always too hard to bet, what with 20 horses and all the crazyness!
Stupidly, I agreed to work for someone, not even realizing it was Derby day. {I know, right??? isn't it always the 1st Sat in May? DOH!!) Anyway, got off work early and drove like a crazy person to my friend Tonya's house. Drank about 15 gallons of sangria, then we watched the race at about 5 am. I had already cheated and checked ESPN on my phone, but she had no clue that her pick won. Who the HELL picks Super Saver??? And WINS!! She's only a horse fan thru me. And why did she pick SS? quote "I LOVES Calvin Bo-Rail" unquote.

So there ya have it folks. Good times!!!

Had the tri in the Oaks for $97 but wish Evening Jewel held on. Played tri's and Pick 3's derby day but was not even close. My son (12 yrs old) had 1,2,4,13,20 tri-box for the derby. I was also going to play it as an exacta but had already spent too much on the day and passed.

Overall a fun day. Setup a TV outside on the deck and watched the early portion of the card from there. Then went over to Monmouth Park with the family for the derby.

Didn't hit crap all day long. Started with the first race too. Just missing all over the place. Had the Oaks/Woodford/Derby double though, so i broke about even for the day. If Ice Box doesn't get up for second, I had the exacta and would be ahead by that much. Still had a blast!

No luck all day long in the Muti race bets.

Keyed Super Saver in the tris and exactas with IB, DMC, AL and PO'P. Invested about $150 in the Derby cashed about $1,900 with a $10 exacta and $1 tri. I'm surprised to hear the $121 for $1 payoff on the SS/PO'P exacta payoff as he was virtually the same odds as IB. If the PO'P jock rides all the way to the wire and doesn't get head bobbed by the 2 I still have the $10 exacta and $1 tri.

I guess it costs me but no regret. I was a big supporter of SS but Steve's on-site reporting really pushed me to PO'P who I still think will could be a turf superstar if he stays healthy. Also thanks to Steve D. whose report on the track basis coming out of the Arkansas Derby helped me get over what could have been a big negative on SS.

It's no secret.

I completely sucked yesterday.

Had Ms. Buttercup in the Eight Belles (I'm not redboarding... I said something about her days before the race somewhere) but I only played her cause AJ has been on her since her first race.

So glad I finally decided to be smart and not sentimental and give up on General Quarters.

lost but much better then it could have been.
Hit the oaks/woodford/derby pick 3 for a $1.
Hit the oaks/derby double for 10$
hit 3 of 4 in every pick 4
all my win bets ran 2nd or third

It was just one of those weekends. Evening jewel being photoed out, cost me a great deal of money....

The "DR PEPPER" angle? BRILLIANT!!

I'm sorry. I've been sitting here for five minutes trying to get it. Could someone explain the "Dr. Pepper" angle to me? It flew right over my head...

Check out Dr Pepper on Wikipedia, it can explain better than I can. 10-2-4 used to be their jingle way back when.

Missed on the derby, i never liked super saver at any point this spring so no one to blame but myself - he showed me for sure that i was wrong. I was all about Paddy in the derby, i thought he ran his heart out but just wasn't good enough on the day. General Quarters was my saving grace for the day, i had an all/general quarters double that paid 400 or so and the General Quarters/all double going into the derby that paid almost 300. A push all in all but much fun.

Best betting day of my life - hit the super on a $200 ticket. Had the $0.50 trifecta three times, and the exacta six times. Needless to say, I'll be looking for some nice framed pics of Desormeaux giving up on Paddy O'Prado once he realized he wasn't going to catch him.

Glad you mentioned it, I saw that also. Surely bad habits are hard to break.
