Funny you mention Doughty. I really like the kid, but is it me or did it seem he was on the ice the entire game (especially in the 3rd period)?
and he was their swing man on the point on PP as well, he had to log the most ice time for all defencemen.

as far as who's to blame, its gonna fall directly on Yzerman, could have told you that when he made his final roster. To bring guys like pronger back for another go around, you knew there was gonna be hell to pay if they didn't win gold. To bad a lot of peoples judgement is clouded and they cant come to grips with benching a HOF goalie, all the while its the right thing to do.

Ya right.......The unit I saw out on the ice was, Maxim Afinogenov, Ilya Kovalchuk, Evgeni Malkin, Sergei Gonchar and oh yeah Alexander Ovechkin.

That's one horrendous group.

Even if they were 0 for 50, I would still take my chances with that group every time.

As good as they played, it just seemed that the ice was tilted many times last night (especially in the last 2 minutes). They are a physical team, but like BT said they seem slow. Sure they can go far, but they are going to need more huge performances like last night from Miller. I think they will end up with a medal, but probably not gold.

My take is Ovie is the best player in the league right now. There is no one on his level. He might go on to be one of the greats of all time. I have never seen a player with the combonation of skills that he has, he is truely amazing.

Jagr is still good but well past his prime.

As far as the US goes, they are just a very solid young blue collar team. Many of them are grinder types and they don't get the all star bids like the sniper/scorer types that seems to fill the rosters of the other powerhouses. It's like the whole team is a collection of 3rd liners. But this isn't a popularity contest either and the US guys are playing hard every shift. But they better tighten up on defense, or they are going to be in trouble.

You would think that it would be the ultimate slap in the face for the guy who might go down as the greatest ever (as painful as it is for me to say).
I do think that since he is allowed to handle the puck more (because of olympic rules), actually hurts him because it's something he doesn't get to do anymore and he is excellent at it. But he does it so much that, it seemed last night he was always scrambling trying to get back into position and I believe it cost him on at least one goal.
I not a big Emrick fan either, but I think him and Eddie O did a good job last night. I enjoyed the game/telecast very much (but the outcome probably had a big thing to do with that). Also for the most part last night except for the late penalty against the U.S., the refs did a good job letting them play.
yeah, i thought that late call was bogus.
as for brodeur, i don't know if i agree or disagree, i just know that some said he should have come out.

You're right. . . Crosby isn't really on his level despite what many say.

I thought the big game last night was pretty good, but not worthy of the reaction of many. Nothing particularly significant was at stake and it was pros vs. pros. . .

Apparently Canada's benching Marty. . . Not sure I agree with that.

Benching the best goalie to ever breath off one uncharacteristically bad game. I think they will be sorry but not tomorrow against the Germans

why isn't marc andre fleury getting the start?

as for the best player out there...i've been watching hockey since the caps started 35 years ago. i've never seen a player like ovechkin. he is a thrill to watch. you never know what he's going to do. hell, they broke his nose a few years back. what did he do? just score four goals that night.

You gotta start Marty. That's a mistake

caps used to have a good goalie. Pete peters in 80s. Best offensive player u had prior to ovechkin probably cicarelli. My fav cap of all time. Dale hunter.

I actually think that Bondra and Gartner were much better than Dino. But I let Dani pass the final judgement based on the fact that she's the Caps fan.

Hunter is on my list of top 5 scumbags that have ever played the game.
