Again your facts are wrong. They didnt sign ward's extension until a year AFTER Burress had left.

They signed Ward because he was the best run blocking receiver in the NFL and the Steelers were the most prolific running team. They signed ward because he was more productive than Plax. Its as simple as that.

If he had such character issues, the steelers wouldnt re-sign him at ANY price.

Here are Plaxicos stats:

Here are Wards stats:

Notice the years both were in Pitt. Ward was just much more productive not to mention a better blocker.

I guess in a sports discussion you cant point out when the other guy gets their facts wrong. I will have to remember that.

LOL. And Sarah Palin can see Russia from her house. There are plenty of people waving those yellow towels that don't have a clue.

Obviously, he should have picked up a program.

The Steelers decided not to re-sign Burris after he missed mandatory mini-camp which was held on Mothers day weekend in 2004. They were not happy with his excuse, and thought he put himself above the team. They would have taken him at a discount price but were not willing to give huge money and a big signing bonus. Ward still had 2 years left on his contract at this time. You can believe me or not but the descision was made in the Summer of 2004 to keep Ward and only resign Plaxico if they could get him at below market value.

Is this not a way of saying....we don't want you?

Although I know a ton of players do sign for below market value.

I would bet that the decision was made long before that. The NFL is about the cap. The Steelers ownership's wealth is pretty much the steelers. They cant afford to play the cap games that owners like Snyder or Jones by giving big bonuses and spreading the hit out over a long period of time. They have to be really selective about the players they do that for.

An orgainization like the steelers doesnt plan year to year. You make salary cap planning years in advance. Ward's contract was up after the 2005 but after being the 31st highest paid receiver in the NFL, he was certain to hold out if they didnt give him a new contract and his agent had pretty much already said so.

So what was the choice? Ward or Plax. You couldnt keep both. And if that were the case, Ward was the much better player. Hands down.

What does that have to do with character? If he was a "character issue", they wouldnt have taken him at any price. How many of those guys have they tolerated over the years? I cant think of many.

So forget how it was being spun for just a second and look at the facts.

They let Kendrell Bell go that year as well. Was that character? How about Joey Porter the year before last?
