The reason that I don't think it would be wise to retire him is because he still might be able to accomplish some good things. Like I said before, I am not a real big fan of the horse, but look at the classic division this year! If Lava Man has a bad race (or hits the wall again like he did last year) in the PC, there really is not any reason that Giacomo couldn't win the race.
People describe him as a G3 horse, and maybe he is, but how many true "G1" horses are there in the classic division this year? Not a lot by any measure. Personally I think Flower Alley is the class of the division, but that one has run just once in the last 9 months. I don't think it is outside the realm of possibility that some horse who people would normally classify as a "G3 caliber" horse will finish first or second in the BCC this year. Could that be Giacomo? As I said earlier, I wouldn't bet on it, but it certainly is possible. Let's say they keep running the horse and he finishes 2nd in the Pacific Classic and then 3rd in the BCC (which might be possible). Wouldn't it have then been a wise decision to keep him running?

it just seems a little immature to call someone a bitch
just because they disagree w/ you
and then declare "thread over" when someone else does
it's like you're a big titty baby
personally, I was glad to see G win the SD

For first off a long layoff and at a distance less than his best, I think Giacomo's race looked pretty good. I thought he might not get the pace he needed to run past the front runners, but 6f in 1:09 and change set it up perfectly for him. He should move forward off of this effort, be fitter for his next race. If somebody goes with Lava Man the way Surf Cat did last year, Giacomo could pull a Borrego in the Pacific Classic.

I, too, thought it was too bad that Papi Chullo was DQ'ed, because the horse that he bothered (Rathor) was backing up at the time and wouldn't have hit the board in any case. Another one of those overhyped NY allowance winners. (Ring any bells?) No question that PC DID bother him, I noticed it at the time, but still a pity he had to come down.

I enjoy calling people b itches, especially if they are men.

Even better is c u n t, now that is my favorite.

Although, Scuds is kind of acting like a b itch right now for not letting it go.

Why wouldn't you just tell Danzig to eff off and let it go?

It must be those liberal left-coast ways.....

Just looking at the present, Scuds ... not trying to write a history book.

Like Funny Cide ... and many others in the past ... Giacomo was once good enough to win a G1 race ... but ...

... he no longer is.

I don't understand why you should take Giacomo's lessened abilities as a personal insult ... or why that's a reason for you to call someone else names.

You watch and see what happens at Saratoga ...

I don't know about anyone else on this thread ... but ... the first sentence of my first post read ...

"It's wonderful to see Giacomo get a '1' next to his name again" ...

... and ... though you couldn't see it ... I had a smile on my face when I typed it!

Isn't Giacomo from the ultra-prolific, all-conquering Sir Gallahad line?

Please tell us ... oh great pedigree genius ... about all the champions the Sir Gallahad line has produced ... especially during its Golden Age ... from 1945-1955.

We're all tingling with excitement awaiting your response.

You write stupid stuff(he just won a grade 2,but you say he will struggle in grade 2 races,)and then don't want to be called stupid.I don't think he showed lessened abilities yesterday. He may not have broke the track record, but LESSENED ABILITIES?Another stupid comment. She attacks a horse like a btch, and then doesn't want somebody to point out that she acts this way. Go disrespect a horse who isn't a Derby Winner.Every trainer would love to have trained the winner of the Derby. This guy pulls it off.Has the horse at his best on Derby day,and has to read people bash his Derby Winner for 14 months.I think it is pathetic that this guy(and the Moss Family) have had to put up with you savages.

I really don't know why Giacomo is no longer good enough to win a G1 race ... but if I ever figure it out ... you'll be the first one I'll tell.

And I noticed that you completely ignored ... twice ... my posting that it felt good to see Giacomo win again ... but ... if you had acknowledged that ... then you wouldn't have been able to call me Mr. Negative ... would you?

And that would have ruined your whole weekend.

Yeah,I READ IT.You brought Roses, and hit him with a hammer.2 faced is what most would call it.Horse wins a grade 2,but you say he will struggle against grade 2 fields.Just a 2 faced comment.

Please re-read my post ...

I didn't say Giacomo will struggle in G2 races ... I said he isn't capable of beating true G1/G2 quality opposition.

Not every G2 race attracts a G2 field ... as the San Diego Handicap clearly demonstrated. But sometimes an overnight allowance race will draw a G1 field.

To knowledgable observers of thoroughbred racing ... it's the quality of the actual opposition a horse defeats that's important ... not the grading a stakes race got based on the horses which ran in it in past years.

I hope you can see the distinction ... and appreciate it.

I'll write it again because perhaps you missed it the first time ...

... I really don't know why Giacomo can't be competitive in G1 races any more ...

... if I did ... believe me ... I'd definitely tell you.

Yeah, blah, blah, blah ...the Grade 1 he won was "weak," and now the Grade 2 he won is "weak." Just a bunch bunch of maggots, and piranha that attack derby winners.

I think you have me confused with someone else ...

... I never said the G1 race Giacomo won ... the 2005 Kentucky Derby ... was weak.

If you have evidence to the contrary ... please produce it. Thanks.
