Don't know this off the top of my nog, but has Danzig ever had a Derby winner? I know he had a Belmont winner at least.

You certainly make a good argument for him, and I agree there's plenty of upside for this colt. I guess it's like the criticism some had for Smarty a few years ago.. I want to see him do the same to tougher competition that he's done already. ( funny thing is, I really liked Smarty by this point of the season, so you'd think I'd be the same for this guy) One more good race for me, then I'll be sold.

Obviously, Hard Spun also has the RAN curse if you believe that sort of mombo-jombo.

My #1&2 are the same as yours right now. Hard Spun is the goods, and Nobiz is the most proven.

Day Pass is an interesting case- I have reservations he'll handle two turns with ease. Talent wise he's right there if he does, his Nashua, off only a 5.5F maiden race, was awfully impressive.

Steve...really like your picks, especially top choice. I think Hard Spun is the real deal (although I'm a prejudiced "homer" who was keyed up on Smarty; Alex and Barbaro & bet them all in Futures). I think Jones is an underrated trainer---just hoping he sticks with Pino as his rider.
Like the pick on Curlin; and think Adore The Gold can be another "local boy" that has potential.

It is pretty amusing how fast people jumped off Street Sense. I think many of them are forgetting he was the best horse in the Breeders Futurity, when one factors in his nightmarish trip, pressing a very fast pace 4-5 wide throughout.

I just watched the BC juvenile replay, as I was looking through the Risen Star, and Circular Quay had a VERY good trip. He moved up with Street Sense from the backstretch through the turn, and while certainly Street Sense benefitted from staying inside, Circular Quay was about three wide on the turn and didn't angle wide until the field reached the stretch. He merely sucked up behind a fast pace that collapsed while Street Sense exploded.

I agree that the two of them had the same trip and it wasn't particularly bad at all. However, there was a HUGE difference on BC day between being in the middle of the track and on the rail. I don't believe that Street Sense was/is 10 lengths better than Circular Quay and all the rest.

Circular Quay just needs to be watched this Saturday. I think we'll know after then whether he is a legitimate Derby horse.

Are the BC replays online?

As for CQ, I kicked his sorry ass out after the Hopeful. Until he gets a similar setup, you know, one of those rare perfect trips where everyone else runs and the race collapses, he's not winning. Against reasonably good quality competition, at least.

Hard to believe that some actually give this horse a shot.

It will also be interesting to see Johnny V ride CQ this weekend.
I think the horse fits Gomez very well, but I believe he's on suspension through Sunday (not sure if we would have came to New Orleans for this race anyway with the Graded Stakes at Santa Anita on SAT and SUN.)
