You can't have it both ways dude. Either David Junior is the USA's 2nd leading money earner and Gomez has earned more cash, or Prado is the leading money earner and Bernadini is the USA's 2nd leading money earner.
Which one makes more sense to you?
Gomez should have got this award for 2005.People are too f'n into how much money they earned. You can't give them equal opportunities(so how can you totally go by money?)I know that Prado made fewer mistakes on chalk with inside posts this year.I'll say Prado should get it,but I won't be upset if Gomez gets it,because he is due one.

The Derby rules are pretty silly and count any money from any graded stakes. That means that the Sheikhs could up the UAE Derby to $10 million and structure the payouts so that the top five are guaranteed a spot in the Derby if they want. It also means that 6 or 7 fillies could get in the field every year if they wanted to. The Delta Jackpot is going to make the problem worse this year. 2nd place in the Wood Memorial will no longer earn you a spot in the Derby. Jazil was the last to get in last year despite no foreign horses or fillies and it is only going to be worse next year.

The Eclipse Awards are based on your North American accomplishments so shouldn't factor in money earned overseas.

I really don't get why the DRF does this, and they seem to change the rules.
For most of the year they had Electrocutionist listed as the number one money earner. Then one day he just vanished from the list.
North American races should be used as the basis on money and I completely disagree with using the UAE Derby in counting Derby earnings.
The third place finisher in that race earns 200 grand I believe.
I suppose they wanna appease the Sheikhs who spend so much cash on horses and make sure their best Derby horses are eligible to run.
But it seems really unfair to allow them to just kick up a lotta cash for a race and keep their horses eligible on this basis. They need only prep one time and hit the board at their home track in orde to stay eligible.
Using Dubai earnings in money earned stats for trainers, jocks, and horses seems fundamentally flawed. Equibase doesn't do it, and it is their stats that are recognized by the industry as far as record keeping goes.

I agree, I see no way that Johnny V will get it. His injuries have made him inconsistant and not nearly the same form he used to be.

Is Pletcher using Gomez on his horses a lot now?
