![]() By BC Turf winner Johar out of an Indian Charlie mare (IC's two favorite horses)
This is the 2nd foal from this IC mare - the first foal was Biofuel (made over 750K in 11 starts - deep closing router by blah sire Stormin Fever) Tu Endie Wei won her career debut going just 5fs in the 155K My Dear stakes at Woodbine Saturday. Her margin of victory was 4.75 lengths - it's not easy for a first-time-starter to win a debut by 5 in a 14-horse field on synthetic, against stakes company, going just 5fs. She did it from plenty off the pace. Again, by a BC Turf winner out of a dam that dropped Biofuel. And she was BET! Make no mistake - she has a real future. Samsal - a Consolidator filly who had the outright fastest unblinkered 1/4 at OBS March - was 3rd at 38/1 odds. |

![]() Not really strangely run - Hope For A Win was up a pole in the blink of an eye last out.
She was totally loose again - not like other speeds were run into the ground trying to go with her. |

Despite all this, I agree with you, I think she can be a special horse. |

![]() Can a 5 furlong race on synthetic really collapse? That's like a 3.5 furlong race on dirt.

![]() To lend some perspective using the Trakus data, Tu Endie Wei traveled 3,377 feet in the five furlong race, breaking from post 13. The number of five furlong races with horses breaking from 12 and out are limited, but the average they've traveled is 3,359 feet. For all horses running five furlongs at Woodbine, the average traveled is 3,345 feet.
Tu Endie Wei's winning margin was 4.75 lengths, but if given the average trip, she probably wins by more than 8 lengths, and almost assuredly would've broken the course record with an inside trip. She traveled anywhere between 9 and 45 feet more than the rest of the field. The second place horse, who closed from well back, is going to look good on paper coming back, but Tu Endie Wei traveled 31 feet more and still beat her well. I think the second place horse is the one to potentially bet against next out considering many people are probably going to think her late move was flashy. |

Some field it was, too. Made up of Penn National and Presque Isle maiden breakers and a couple of maiden claiming winners. The other first time starter in there (a late running 5th) was less than 9-1. I'll wait for Keeneland before anointing this one. |

![]() This horse is good Rolo. Just the money it took said a whole lot.
By the way, I didn't cash on anything in it. |

![]() After one race, of course, I'll wait too, but there should be some reason to be excited by the potential given the ridiculously strong effort. Not sure if you are a Reade Baker fan, but I love the guy and he held nothing back to suggest that she was special. For a guy like that to no mince words, even on a special horse, is something, he was even talking Breeders' Cup. Just not his norm.

![]() It was a nice performance for a good 2yo filly -- but nothing special. Second place ran very well again. The rest couldn't compete.
I've been blown away by the high percentage of top rated horses from my 2-year-old sales list who have went to Woodbine - of all places. The 2-year-old racing at Woodbine is WAY tougher than people think. Tougher than it has ever been imo. Maybe the value of the Canadian dollar is helping it? The Canadian dollar is worth more than the American dollar right now -- and Woodbine has those slot fueled purses. Those 2yo MSW races with a purse of $64,000 at Woodbine -- I suppose -- look even better when it translates into more than 64K American money. I've had more of my top 100 2yo sales aces debut at Woodbine than Saratoga or Del Mar or anyother track to this point - so far. |
