![]() Update from DM barn notes.....
Stable Notes By Gene Williams Monday, August 7, 2006 GOOD REWARD, SUPER FROLIC WORK; GIACOMO WORK DELAYED Two prospects for Del Mar’s Grade I, $1-million Pacific Classic, Good Reward and Super Frolic, posted workouts at Saratoga Race Course and Del Mar, respectively, this morning as they moved toward the big race. But the most anticipated work – that by 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo – was postponed until Tuesday. The big gray colt, owned by Jerry and Ann Moss and trained by John Shirreffs, will work 7 furlongs Tuesday, the same distance for which he was scheduled today. Working just after 9 a.m., Super Frolic was clocked for 5 furlongs in 1:00.80 and galloped out 6 furlongs in 1:14.60 with exercise rider Jesse Marquez in the saddle. It was the second Del Mar work for the 6-year-old son of Pine Bluff since finishing third to Lava Man and Ace Blue in the Hollywood Gold Cup, beaten just three-quarters of a length for the big prize. Trainer Vladimir Cerin said of the work, “He worked quite well and galloped out strong. I’m very happy with it.” Cerin said Super Frolic would have one more work – next weekend -- before heading into the race. The big chestnut, owned by Ro Parra’s Millennium Farms, finished fifth to Borrego in last year’s Pacific Classic. In his earlier workout at the seashore, Super Frolic went a half-mile in 49.60 on July 22. At Saratoga, Good Reward moved forward with a 5-furlong move in 1:00.98 over the Oklahoma Training Track. Assistant trainer Buzz Tenney said the work satisfied trainer Claude R. McGaughey III, who was present at the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame inductions. Good Reward, who will be ridden by three-time Pacific Classic=winning jockey Garrett Gomez, is scheduled to work once more before heading west late next week, McGaughey said earlier. Also scheduled to work on Tuesday at Del Mar is Greg Norman’s Papi Chullo. The 4-year-old gray colt is expected to work one mile under exercise rider Angel Rangel. |
