So by defending myself, I am in the wrong? I'm not trying to tick anyone off.

Look, I get ripped on all the time here because people assume that since I write for the Derby site, that I think I am the world's greatest handicapper or racing writer. I have claimed neither, because obviously neither is true. And when this becomes clear in my posts, people feel it's their job to "put me in my place." And that's fine. I don't care at all. The day I get upset about what some douche who has never met me says about me is the day I put a bullet in my head. But at the same time, I'm going to defend myself when people get unfairly personal.

The best way to spot people who take themselves too seriously is to see how they respond to people who DON'T take themselves seriously at all. And on this board, there are about 5 people who know there stuff (I'm not one of them) and a whole lot of people who know about 1/5th of what they think they know, and who take themselves and their opinions way, way too seriously.

I just hate how corporations put bloggers on their websites. It's a sign of the internet apocalypse.

You're working for free or for very little pay and you're taking a job away from a real journalist and/or handicapper.

As for the comment about bloggers, I can't say I disagree. But you better get used to it.

As for my pay, you are wrong on every count. I am paid well for my work considering the amount of time I put into it. And I am taking a job away from no one. Bloggers are not journalists, and Churchill Downs employees journalists.

Uh no I don't.

It's on Churchill to get my business. Right now they're not getting a penny from me because they're being run by a bunch of monkeys in overpriced suits. They're notorious for cutting corners and isolating their customers. It's only a matter of time before they're bought out and/or completely change their business model.

Leave it CHD to screw their everyday owners out of 20% of the original purse. Citing that they have to because of the horsemans stance with the signal being withheld. However, they can bump a purse by 250k to attract a horse that the trainer has been saying for weeks that hes planning to run.

Just dont see how they manage to fucl< up every decison they make. Even when there isnt an issue that needs a decision.

Sports reporters are already losing readership to bloggers. It's a fact. I'm not saying it's right, but it is what it is.

I don't see how putting a blog on a website is hurting their business. While you may not be a fan of my blog, I do have a lot of readers. And Churchill Downs has spent more and more money on the Derby site every year of its existance.

Because they have a tech guy running the company now. Not that Meeker was worth a bottle of piss, mind you.

He should be fired for wasting money on that retarded OTB style video on Twinspires. He must think the majority of Twinspires account holders are on T1 connections.

You have no idea how much it cost to "create" that new feature. And you act as if account holders have no other option when watching video on the site.

As I said, it's a brilliant move on Churchill's part to secure the presence of the reigning HOY and pry him away from the other race that they were considering for him on June 14th. Oh wait.......
This almost tells me that Curlin is 100% to win this.

Nah dude, I don't care who you are or what you do for a living, and most people on here probably don't either- just like they don't care what I do for a living. We're here to talk about racing- not about the economy, or typos, or other bullsh*t like that. You can do that on the CNN website if you want. We already know that most mainstream writers and editors couldn't tell you what a furlong is, let alone get ownership and birth locations correct.

The part I bolded in your response is clearly in conflict with what you said above- if you didn't care, you wouldn't respond/defend yourself.

By the way, the best racing writer owns the DRF, and anybody else is a distant second. Don't think you'll disagree with me there.

Wrong.

I can care enough to defend myself without being upset.

So a prerequisite to post is to be as obnoxious
as possible. I love reading the racing posts on this
site. I think a tiny bit of civility is not a difficult task.

The more cynical, sarcastic, and immature the post
the better I guess. Interesting trend compared to
when this place first opened up.

I'll stay. There is a battle for Oracle's niche and
I would like to see which people fill it.

I have an idea of how much it cost and quite frankly you have no idea that I have an idea of what it cost. I know it was an unnecessary addition to the site at this time and that what they spent to implement it could've been used for essential upgrades like the brand of toilet paper they use at their facilities. The stuff they have now is like razor blades.

Call the ****in' whaambulance, bro!

It's impossible to argue with someone like you, because you ignore valid points and arguments, and almost immediately resort to calling names.

I don't take myself, nor you seriously, hence me not comprising long-winded posts and resorting to name calling with you. Seems to me that the dude who writes paragraph after paragraph and is constantly calling people idiots or morons is more likely to be the one taking things too seriously.

You annoy me a lot of times, but I don't hate you or anything.

Back in late January/early February when Curlin was nominated for the Mineshaft here at the Fairgrounds, they were also deciding if he would go to Dubai. So CD offered to make the Mineshaft purse a million if he would run here.

Since they have now upped the Foster purse to a million, I am thinking when the deal was being made it was offered to have Curlin make his first run in the US after the HOY at ANY CD property.
Just a guess...I'll stay out of the rest of this now. Carry on....

Stay in. The rest of this is nonsense. There's a story buried in this thread that needs to be resurrected.

I could understand the Fairgrounds purse being upped. At that time, there was a decision yet to be made as to whether he'd run there or prep in Dubai. This one is different. I don't know how probable it is that any deal was made to have him make his first US run at a CD property but I suppose that is possible. And that's exactly what they were going to do by running in the Foster, whether they raised the purse or not. The raising of the purse has nothing to do with drawing Curlin.
