3 of my top choices too, along with A.P. Indy (or even Aptitude if I'm feeling cheap) & Empire Maker....I'm going to need more mares.

Storm Cat wouldn't be anywhere on my list honestly. Anyone catch the list of his top yearling progeny by sales price in the past few years and their race record (or lack thereof)?

I agree that Empire Maker could turn out to be a very, very attractive stallion. I also love Distorted Humor, Belong To Me and 2 newbies Bellamy Road and Artie Schiller(for the fee they seem very attractive)

That is really the kind of stallion I would take a shot on though. The ones that were fabulously bred, and were excellent on the track, but have not been that great at stud.
Grindstone and Skip Away would be on my list as well.

Do I have to race the baby or may I sell?

To race, Distorted Humor, Cozzene, Dynafomer, More than Ready (a filly, please) Smart Strike or maybe Johannesburg.

To sell, Storm Cat is still the most likely to sire a sales topper followed by AP Indy. Distorted Humor has also become a very good seller. Mr Greeley has suddenly become a monster seller too.

i'd like Two Davids and Connecticut for the lines. and i would recommend Alladin Rib and Mr Brilliant for theirs.

Then a more commercial route would be Easyfromthegitgo and Lost Soldier for the mare i have in mind.

always liked him.

i think i'd head to distorted humor with the right mare. or include, always partial to broad brush as well.
then there's officer, or maybe vindication. hard to say with this mythical mare of mine....

or maybe running stag!

Depending on the mare's pedigree, I would suggest A.P. Indy(the best sire out there) or one of his sons. Vindication would be a great mating, being another son of Seattle Slew. If the mare has Slew in her pedigree, I would choose from the Mr. Prospector line. I like Fupeg and Thunder Gulch.

If you go under the assumption that you would turn around and essentially pinhook the yearling there is no doubt that you would take the free cover to Storm Cat. Just take a look at the Keeneland September sale first couple of books. It is a no-brainer.

However, if you wanted the little guy(or gal) for yourself there would be some options. You really cannot go wrong with the offspring of Storm Cat, AP Indy, Kingmambo, Distorted Humor, Dynaformer, Elusive Quality. They are all proven. I would say that any stallion that has been covering for five years or so and still has a stud fee greater than 50K would be a great bargain for "free".

Take a look in the Bloodhorse or Thoroughbred times at the stakes/allowance results and check out the sires the winning horses. You will be amazed at how generally consistent it is with the top studs producing the best horses.

There still is that amazing factoid out there still that Storm Cat as still not sired a KY Derby winner as amazing as that is. Bluegrass Cat was in the money last year but still waiting for the first one to break thru. Hard to believe that arguably the best stud ever has not produced a derby winner.
