Does anyone know why we race horses in the US counter clockwise?

Left handed turns is counter clockwise.

Same reason we drive on the right side of the road, and the steering wheel is on the left side of the car.

the directions are referred to as left handed or right handed not clockwise and counterclockwise, they all have digital clocks in europe.
