Default Gentle musings on The Traves Day Card

I'll start . . . sure wish we had Race 1 on the card. I wanted to put at least $20 on Martini'nmoonshine . . . going along with Patty and my "bet any horse with liquor in it's name". Paid 24.20

Maybe we consider this as a change to the rule for ROI, that is you can wager on any race at the primary track (sometimes we play races at one more track) in lieu of just those chosen for the Points contest.

Just a thought we can bring up at the end of the year.

Just my thoughts. I have no objections scoring an entire race card. It makes no difference to me what races we play. When I suggest skipping races it's because I have no interest in handicapping a race with a lot of first time starters and would never bet them in the ROI and for me playing them in the points contest would just be guessing or following the morning line.

Does that mean you have a couple of $$ on Midnight Bourbon in the Travers? Whether or not, for racing fans today Life Is Good and I'll enjoy it even more As Time Goes By.

I happened to take a shot with Martini'nmoonshine in another handicapping contest that rewards good mutuel prices and had a very good feeling to start the racing day.

Your musing is worth discussing and getting a reaction from our ROI scorer. I'll admit that on a couple of occasions I've wanted to play a late pick something but couldn't because we weren't including the final race.

So here I go again . . . on my picks sheet in Race 4 I have 3-6-2 but somehow my brain and stupid fingers (I avoided saying stupid brain) typed in 7-6-2.

That's OK Don. I played race 4 and meant race 8. I figured it out when there was no 7 in the 4th. At least we both saved a couple bucks.

Never seen anything like Firenze Fire's biting Yaupon for so long in deep stretch in the Forego. Wow.

That's a first for me seeing horse bite another while racing. I was sure there would be a deep stretch fall for both and others. My heart pounded a little. I had bet on the 8 and thought for sure 8 was going to win then my thought went will they stay up.

Without the biting incident I think that Firenze Fire would have kept his focus and won. That's a tough beat for you.

Good riding by both riders to avoid a disaster.

Too bad about Whitmore. Hope it's only a "time to retire" type injury.

I believe that I heard that Whitmore suffered a suspensory injury that was NOT life threatening. He was one cool racehorse, always gave his very best even though he could be a handfull.

I think that was the 2nd time I saw something like that and the other time was also with Firenze Fire, but that time he was the bitee and not the biter. Too bad. I think he cost himself the race. I think the other time was on the Pennsylvania Derby Day. Not sure how long ago that was. Couple years ago, I think.

Whitmore has been an awfully good one. We will miss him. I can remember him from his races at Oaklawn as a 3 year old before he became a sprinter.

Looks like none of us are mistake free. I just realized I had a 7 in race 9 when there is no 7. I meant to type 6. Life's not that good sometimes. Just got new phone and it's fast.

I'm thinking you still did pretty well in points.

Most owners and trainers would love to have a Whitmore. He's due horse racing respect for sure.

So what do y'all think about a thread like this for some of our bigger days, . . . not for every card. No negativity or harsh complaining allowed after all it's called "Gentle Musings".

Personally, I like it.

Count me in. I enjoy BS'ing about the racing card as it progresses. Makes it much more enjoyable.
