I bet if the BC was at Belmont they would've. Is he supposed to try to win the races like the Met Mile that he was 2nd in? I'd get it if they said sure, and I get it that they said no instead. It's really just a matter of the financials for the ownership and I'm sure Lane's End made it worth their while. With Curlin gone (and he'd have gone up anyway) they get an appealing freshman sire at about $40K so that makes sense. Tonalist's got the breeding and soundness to make a good stallion, he's turning 5, has 16 starts. People on comment sections have been wringing their hands about what a shame and retiring too early etc. He doesn't owe us anything and doesn't need to prove anything. It's more a case of 'it would've been nice.'

Yeah, would have been nice. And I certainly understand them doing it. He seems to have all that a breeder would desire.
