To DQ or Not to DQ this is my question?
Last Wed. at Del Mar in the last race, I had a Pick 3 play alive to 2 horses. The even money favorite #6 The Supply Program with Garrett Gomez up, and the #4 Brave Sun with Julio Garcia riding. In the stretch The Supply Program came over into the path of Brave Sun. He wasn't clear, and I felt like he should have come down. Although Garcia didn't have to check, he did only lose by a neck. So Julio lodged an objection against Gomez, but the stewards disallowed it. Of course causing my Pick 3 not to pay as well. Then Saturday I read in the racing form where Gomez is given days for not keeping a straight course in the stretch of that race. How could the stewards not DQ the horse at the time, but then go back and give him days for actions in that race? I know this kind of situatiuon has happened before to dozens of jocks in dozens of races, just looking for a better idea of why is all? At the time I thought because the jock didn't have to check that is why they didn't take down the winner. My guess would be at the time they thought the horse did not deserve to come down, but the jockey (Gomez in this case) did act reckless and we'll give him days, but not punish the horse because he was best in this race? I'd appreciate feedback if anyone has seen the race, and has an opinion. Thanks everyone.
