During last night's gubernatorial debate between Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Gov. Scott Walker, Barrett made the point that in his years in public service, he never had an aide arrested.
But in May 2010, Joseph N. Cantu, who had been Barrett's office receptionist, pleaded guilty to two counts of battery and one count of disorderly conduct in connection with an incident involving an ex-girlfriend, according to online court records.
Cantu had been placed on unpaid leave after the charge became public. He was sentenced to 90 days in the House of Correction under the Huber law.
In another case dating back to June 2008, Barrett appointed Boris Gokhman, a well known developer, to a business improvement district board. In 2004, Gokhman was convicted of health-care fraud
