It would have been nice to see this horse debut in a bigger field.

Velazquez was riding Archwarrior hard early on and he didn't show a whole lot of early speed -- in a bigger field he would have had dirt kicked in his face and saw some adversity and traffic because he didn't have the gate speed to outrun it.

I was worried that the true speedballs might lose an edge in these type of races with the field sizes limited -- but they've done well there and it's still very important in those type of races even with smaller fields where the horses who don't have it are less likely to find trouble and adversity.

I don't like the 8-hosses-only rule; makes for shorter prices in baby races.

As for Archwarrior, meh. Orb, trained by the 21st-century Shug who no longer wins with firsters, was, IMNSHO, far more impressive in his first start.

How " not so humble " is your opinion now?

That was always silly. I really think Archwarrior is the real deal if he stays together, which with TP in charge is a huge if.

About the same.

Archwarrior (out of training, though I digress) could not be reached for comment.

Even bad etiguette for internet buffoons.

I can't wait to get a refresher of your five other posts. Undoubtably at least three of them were touting Orb before yesterday's race ( I actually publicly picked him 2nd.....how about you? ).

What is your opinion of Orb now? I know yesterday you were rooting for Normandy Invasion.

"Undoubtably?"

Try again.

"etiguette" was good also.

Not much different than yesterday, when I picked him second. He's an improving horse, that got a great set up yesterday, but has the right trainer to keep improving. These horses race so infrequenly that it's hard to get a solid handle on them.

Like a lot of people, I like to see good trainers like Shug do well, and I hope Orb keeps winning for him. However, I'm not sure that Live Lively didn't run a better race in winning yesterday's Davona Dale. It's at least close.

He and Normandy Invasion were in different races. I joked about Normandy Invasion because we highlighted him on Trips&Traps after he finished 5th in his debut. We also showed Orb's debut on Trips&Traps.

While Orb has, um, won the Florida Derby, Archwarrior, encouragingly, remains eligible to... NW1/OT. I'm sure his name will turn up again in the work tabs any decade now.
