I don't think Dunkirk ever ran again after the Belmont, no?

Thanks. I also got un-lazy and looked it up after I posted. The sad thing about my memory....I bet the crap out of him in the Belmont.....

For some reason I got him confused with Danger to Society, who didn't even run in the Derby. His name just stuck in my head. I wasn't the only one who noticed the downward spiral, though......

Wise Guy horses win about as much as tip horses. When I was a kid a friend of our family was the doctor at Suffolk Downs and he eventually had to quit because he was betting too many of the can't lose horses that the jocks and trainers were giving him.

For me it was 2007 Circular Quay. Leading up to the big day it was probably my first Derby Trail argument I had with Hossy. LOL. And.....He was right.

That said, he does appear to me at least to be one of the horses capable of winning and I'll be using him on most of my tickets.
You might want to watch both La Derby and Ark Derby replays..

It looks like he had two pretty good set ups to me. Are you saying that he didn't?

Asmussen should dream to have either of those "troubled trips" in the Derby IMO.

I'm sure you're referring to the VERY brief steady as the field straightened away in the Louisiana Derby. That hardly constitutes a troubled trip. From that point he had 3/16ths of a mile to catch the leader and made a nice late move but never encountered the type of trouble that precluded him from winning the race.

His trip in the Arkansas Derby was beyond perfect. He had nary a straw in his path in the final three furlongs and was lucky enough to have Archarcharch make the first move into a collapsing pace. Still, he found a way to come up short.

I'm not against Nehro in the Derby because there are reasons to like him. He clearly looks to be the type of horse who can stay the distance, he's steadily improving and he should get a good pace to run at. There's nothing about his trips in his last two races that bolster his win credentials IMO. He had a very nice setup in the Ark Derby.

Based on that are you comfortable (or should I be) backing Archarcharch? I think he is coming in right and looks like the kind (style/attitude) of horse who wins this race.

I think anyone who is throwing out Archarcharch is playing with fire.

I sort of agree. If it were 9 furlongs I might use him, just like Comma, but at 10 even against a weak group I don't like him as much

Nice to hear, I am seriously considering backing him as my key horse. Thanks Nick.

He is my key. Thinking the price is 10 to 14-1, though there seems to be some momentum behind him.

Why don't you like him? I watched all the Prep and reviewed the charts. He looks great. Why not?
