Sheesh ... he galloped out his final furlong in 16.20 seconds? ... the worst trotters around can do that pulling a buggy. I imagine going that slow in a gallop-out isn't uncommon .. but after tearing it up for 5f you'd think momentum would help you through the next one.

With the "gallop out" - his 6f time of 1:14 flat would have translated to a 48 Beyer.

I remember the funny quote that came out of Frankel after Funny Cide's pre-Belmont work, something to the affect that he'd walk him for days and pray.

I know Stevie Wonderboy had an extremely fast work before the '05 Breeders' Cup Juvy. I remember that he was the fastest of something like 145 horses at whichever distance it was, but I can't remember the time/distance exactly.
I just remember it was fast.

Maybe someone who has access to DRF archives may be able to come up with the specifics. This would be in respect to a workout that Clever Trevor had prior to the 1989 St. Paul Derby. I'll never forget the description of the work by the DRF trackman in the Form. "Clever Trevor working as though possed by the devil........"

Now I feel like it was all for naught.

Foolish Pleasure worked 56 and a piece ( maybe 56 2/5 ) before the Match Race.

That track was a highway however.

Was it as bad a track as CD in 2001 Derby?

As I started to sour on synthetic tracks - and once jokingly compared him to Fischer - he flew over the handle bars and has been a vocal Anti DrugS force ever since.

Fastest work i ever saw personally was put in by Flying Paster. A mile in 1'33 3/5. It was right before the Strub Stakes at SA. Still got no closer to the "Bid"...
