but i somehow don't see 'atheist' and 'crusade' going together. funny tho that the pope who started all the crusading spirit somehow convinced a lot of pious people that killing infidels was fine just fine, and god wanted them to do it.

What he said is that the number of jews killed seems to keep going up. 4 million, to 8 million, to 12 million, etc.... Basically he was saying that the jews were using the holocaust as a means for advancement. Which is a whole other can of worms. But I don't think that Mel or his Father ever absolutely denied the holocaust. History is always up for debate. |

Either way, I think it is pretty obvious that his father is anti-semetic. Who, other than an anti-semite would be bickering about whether it was 4 million or 6 million Jews killed in concentration camps? That would be like me saying that John Wayne Gasey is not as bad a guy as everyone says. I don't think he killed as many people as they say. They say he killed 50 people but I think he only killed 35 people. By the way, I don't think there is much debate as to how many Jews died in the Holocaust. I think that historians are pretty confident that the number is about 6 million. In the years right after the Holocaust, it may have taken them a while to come up with a figure. Mel was claiming that his dad claims that they originally said the number was 12 million and then they lowered it to 10 million and then 6 million. I don't know if that's true or not but even if it is true it doesn't mean that anyone was fudging the numbers. It just means that it took a while for them to figure out how many people died. Even with 9/11 and the World Trade Center, it took them several months to figure out how many people died. I think the number ended up being about 3000 but they originally had no idea what the number was. A few days after 9/11, there were all kinds of numbers out there. Some people thought the number was well over 10,000. By the way, former KKK member David Duke is another guy who says the Holocaust was greatly exagerrated. |

I personally don't much care either way, I was just saying that his dad didn't say that there was no such thing as the holocaust. But you are correct, he is an anti-semite. And I guess this can be categorically said due to some of his published quotes. To answer your question as to who, other than an anti-semite, might be debating the number killed? I would have to say historians might be debating it. Are you asserting that by even questioning matters concerning the history of the jewish people, you are automatically an anti-semite? You winding it up by making sure that you mention David Duke was a nice touch. That guy is whacko, but in no way represents everyone who researches the holocaust. |
