Well see, who said River Downs never had any big races. That's good to hear. I really hate to see them and Beulah close if that's what is in the works.

I think JBalls gave up his role at River this year since they have a different guy, to stay at his home track of Emerald, but he probably can confirm that.

Lay off him Pants. Health issues alright sent him from Ohio to back home. Your comedy can now go to another thread.

FYI Pants when you make fun of people who are posting about things they truely care about do you not know you are the one who looks the fool? Pick you f'ing spots but don't come treading in my water without an occasional ripple.

With love,

Your Message Board Tough Guy Curt

Or maybe I don't keep up with River Downs and didn't know Balls wasn't the announcer anymore.

Please continue your tirade...but not before you clean up the mess in aisle five.

No worries Pants, you certainly didnt offend me. And i have thought about legally changing my last name to Balls, but i think i'll stick with the name my parents gave me.

I did leave River after Derby Day for some health and personal reasons. I'm doing much better and will be returning to racecalling very soon.

That being said, I phoned Peter Aiello the day i left and got him in touch with the people at River. I think he started right around the first of June and he's been doing a very good job. Just like any new announcer he has made some small mistakes once in a while, but we all do. The important thing is he's having fun and improving each time i've heard him. I think Peter has a bright future!!

Balls would be a killer last name. I'd name my kids Tanner and Amber.

I'm glad your health is improving and look forward to hearing that the race is indeed on once again.

If I'm not mistaken, the original Latonia burned down before being rebilt many years later on the Turfway Rd. site of the current Turfway Park in Florence KY. They used to also have a Steeplechase course adjacent to the exisiting course before the airport expanded and took the land for additional runways.

Well, missed this story last week, but it looks like the Racing Commission isn't buying that they want so few dates next year. Could have seen this one coming. And the story goes on in Ohio...

Well, I think you should use Tampa as the baseline. If your racing is any worse than that, then it's pretty sad. Anything less than that is just a white trash magnet.

I was originally uneasy about slots on site at race tracks because I was afraid all the money for upkeep and improvements would be used to cater to the slot players, and horseman needs would be ignored to the point where racing would die. Then we would be left with nothing but a huge slot parlor. But now with Ohio tracks being surrounded by states with casino gambling and KY's big purses to the south, it's an easy decision to ship out to other tracks to run for big money. If the slot legislation in OH doesn't happen soon, I'm afraid it's "goodnite Irene" for T-Breds in the Buckeye state. This effects Turfway Park also. With the opening of the Riverboat casinos 30 min. downstream from Cincy some 10 years ago, TP's handle was immediately down 10-15 % and Presque Isle is getting horses that would normally be stabled at TP for the fall meet, because of increased purses there.
