I'm not agreeing with what was said in this thread, nor do I root against others when I don't have my own bet on a race (sometimes I'll look at someone's picks on here and watch the races and root for them), but when you consider the nature of paramutel gambling it's hard not to root against others sometimes. . .

I think that there is a diffrence between rooting against someone and hoping your ticket pays. Pari-mutual means that someone must lose money so you can make it, but you don't have to be an ass about it.

JustinDew,
It was thoughtful of you to share your ticket here and very nice to offer it up for partners. Hopefully one donkey of a poster won't keep you from sharing your thoughts. Perhaps one day we will cross paths at Calder.

There seems to be an ongoing problem with criticizing and/or rooting against the people who share their selections. Not only does it happen here, it also happens everyday at racetracks and OTB's across America. Unfortunately it's the nature of the game and more than likely one of the many reasons why the game has struggled to attract new fans.

I've never rooted against anyone. If I don't cash why the hell would I care where the pool goes? If I know someone who has a winner I didn't bet, I'm not an a-hole about it. What would be the point? I'd probably ask him why he liked the horse and try to learn something from my miss.

I do know what you're saying is true. I just do not get it.
