Let me first say that I'm not a Giacomo fan. He is definitely the worst horse to win the Derby in a long time. But that being said, he still won the Derby. You can't take that away from him. He also won a graded stakes race last month.

The fact that he didn't win today doesn't prove anything. You guys are hilarious. You pull the same crap all the time. One bad race doesn't prove anything. A horse could win 10 times in a row and when he loses his next start, you guys say "See I told you this horse isn't any good. His loss today proved that he's no good. Never mind that he just won 10 in a row."

Now in the case of Giacomo, I tend to agree with you. As I said, he's the worst Derby winner in a long time. But by the same token, I think they've been having some problems with him ever since the Preakness. I think he ran his best in the Derby and I think he ran his best in the Preakness. He got hurt in the Belmont and he's never really been quite the same since. He was never a great horse, but at his best I think he could certainly run better than he did today. If he was at his best, he could have probably finished 3rd or 4th and possibly even 2nd. Look who ran 2nd. Good Reward ran 2nd. He's not much horse on the dirt. Good Reward really isn't even great on the grass. He fluked into a couple of lucky wins.

Giacomo has won his share of nice races.Obviously he likes a 46 or quicker pace to chase.If you like to rag on horses, then you can rag on his one dimensional style.It is often said that he is slow.He is slow if they run a 46'3,or a 47.He can beat fast horses if they run a 46'0 or quicker.He can look very bad( until he gets his pitch.)You give him his pitch,and he won't leave it short. If he were to get the pace in the 2003 classic (22.79, 46.35, 1:10.32, 1:34.32,)then I think he would have a shot.Same for the 2002 classic.2004,and 2005...No...All about getting his pitch.

... if all the other horses collapse from exhaustion ... Giacomo is capable of staying on his feet and passing them.

Well, bash him then.Seems to get you off to bash a horse who has won 2.2 million.Sometimes other horses get their favored 47 type split,and sometimes he gets his 46 split.He is much more interested when they run a 46 split.They aren't stopping yet, when they run a 46,but he is much comfortable rating off that pace.I would say he is a wild card,and always has been.When people's favorite selections for the Derby failed to win,they took their wrath out on the wild card winner,and they will do that long after he is retired.

I don't get the bashing either. Every year they run the Derby and one horse wins. On that day, whatever the trip he and others got, he was the best. End of story. I guess people can say he's the worst Derby winner of the past 25 years based on their own "expertise", that's their opinion and that's fine. I'm just glad to see horses like him and Funny Cide still racing.

It wasn't your fault Alex should have won the race, he was easily the best horse in the race, but got compromised due to circumstances.

See, I don't agree on that, although I think Alex is a nice horse. The best horse in the race was Bellamy Road and HE got compromised.

That horse was going to get compromised every time he wasn't loose on the lead. Too bad it is looking less likely everyday that we'll ever see him on the track again.

I know. It's a damn shame. The talent really was there on him IMO (although the maturity may not have been.)

I agree, the first mistake was the "farm manager" taking over his training regime and relieving Zito. The farm manager always came off very arrogantly in all of his interviews making up excuses for Bellamy Road. Don't get me wrong Bellamy has alot of talent but I don't think he was ever as good as the Wood made him appear.

P.S. Alex was clearly the best horse in the race
