Couldn't say it any better. It was a true run race, unlike most Ky Derbies. Hats off to the connections of the top 3 finishers for having there horses ready to run back in 2 weeks. I doubt all 3 will come back for the Belmont, but we'll see.

I was just sayin SS wasn't good enough TODAY (go back and read it, it's clearly what it says). 2nd, both Nafzger and Borel in interviews after the races said they had no excuses. 3rd, comin around the final turn neither were blocked and neither were extremely wide. They had clean runs going into the stretch (and down the stretch). Whether SS got lazy or not, he got beat TODAY.

I'm not branding one better than the other for the rest of their careers. Hopefully they both go to Belmont, or run later in the summer for many many re-matches to come. Let's hope greedy ownership doesn't send them to the shed before the BC. Just gimme that for both please...

Well Bloodhorse has 22.82, 45.75, 1:09.80, 1:53.20, Thoroughbred Times says 1:53.40...either way a very fast race, equals stake record I think...

Another point- Borel was asked if he made his move on SS too early. He didn't IMO. Not that I think it mattered much, but Pino on Hard Spun definately did.

I'm confused now. I mean they said 2/5 so Bloodhorse probably just slapped the .20 up there but was it really .40 even or was there a hundredths change in there? And that means Street Sense effectively almost got it himself and I think would've if he hadn't hung grrrr. He's tied with Louis Quatorze and Tanks Prospect if Curlin got it.

What was Secretariat's "real" time? I thought it was such that he probably would've had it but they won't credit him with the numbers due to the time malfunction.

Excellent race to watch.
I didn't watch the '89 Preakness live. So I have to compare this one to the '97 Preakness finish.
Same top 3 as Derby. Now some people should consider laying off Pletcher, since no one else has a 3yo to crack these three either.

Agreed on the head turn. In a head bob race, that could have meant the world.

Wagering wise I would not have had it either way, as I tossed HS. But I keep rewinding the DVR and that turnaround is killing me.

One one hand, a showdown in the Belmont would be a great headliner.

On the other, I'm openly rooting for a Triple Crown Winner.

Curlin was amazing. I think Borel messed up. Thats all I got.

Was this finish the result of Pino moving too soon indirectly? Street Sense got in front sooner than he might've since Hard Spun wasn't still holding on and Curlin had time to catch back up when SS hung but would that've happened had he been behind just a fraz longer?

How so? Everyone, including his rider is saying he hung today. In both of those 2yo races, he was caught and passed in the lane. This is not taking anything away from the horse or his ability. He's a very good horse. But whether it's a distance thing (hard to argue that since his hanging in the 2yo's was in shorter races and he went on to win the Derby) or it's a mental trait, the fact remains that he's been caught several times from behind when it looks like he's on his way to victory.

Curlin can get better.
He ran a very uneven race.
This is a very good horse.
