Gammons lives on inside information. That is why he is who he is. If you want to believe he didn't know steroids were rampant in baseball go ahead. That guy knows everything. He just looks the other way when it benefits him. That is not being a journalist, that is being a pawn of the owners. Steroids would have been out of baseball long ago if people like Gammons did their job.

I email him for some news that he has heard from around the league, so I can use to post with my fellow roto-writers. I've only met one fellow writer, who can't stand him, and uses his columns to contradict his every word. Unfortunately he is a part of my roto-crew.

Yeah, he tells it like it is. He just looked past the steroids story. He kept his mouth shut to keep getting inside info from Scouts, GM's, etc. I like journalist that are honest and dig for stories, not ones who keep quiet in order to get information.

As for whether he's biased or not, I definitely don't think so (though my Yankee fan bretheren think he is), but I still don't think that a debate on that belongs here. Even if he is biased, so what? The man came close to dying and is not yet out of the woods.
Well said Betsy.

I guess all the young people that might die from steroid use are no big deal because they aren't a celeb like Gammons. He obviously wasn't too concerned about them.

Young people stupid enough to use steroids have cut out their own destinies. I have trouble feeling sorry for them. They shouldnt depend on a journalist to help save them for whatever comes there way. Cant blame a guy who is just trying to make a living.

Journalists need to do their job and report stories. Same garbage goes on in Washington. People get away with crap because journalists look the other way so they can get an invite to a party. Ridiculous.

Yeah, because kids using Steroids is Peter's fault - the only ones to blame are the kids themselves. Sorry - at some point, they have to take responsibility for their actions.

I find it funny that you're getting on Peter's case (because he didn't pursue a story hard enough, as if he lacks some moral fiber), at a time when he is seriously ill. Seems like a contradiction to me.

Well I can see your point to a degree but with everything that has been put out there in the last 10 years on steroids, I hardly blame Peter Gammons for contributing to the young people's steroid use. Any high school athlete that uses steroids isnt worth the piss that comes out of his you know what. Sorry, but its just the truth. It would be like me going home doing and 8 ball of coke and wanting people to feel sorry for me when my heart explodes.

Enough of your insults.
I don't need meds...you do.
Plenty have responded to your rants.
You need help, Exceller.
If anyone disagrees with your narrow mindset, you don't state facts about the topic that you disagree with, just bring out your insults and judgements.
btw, nice compassion for a guy that has had brain surgery....

I won't be responding to any more of your threads.

How about a journalist just giving us the truth. Gammons knows everything that goes on in baseball. He just covered it up.

If it was there, which everyone knows it was, he must not have been doing his job or he just looked the other way.
Well, this is all just false. A borderline rookie prospect doing HGH and steroids in the Red Sox clubhouse does not constititue the entire clubhouse doing it. Even if they did, peep the standings for 2000, the Sox were bad. This player was a fringe prospect, Paxton Crawford. No reporter ever blew the whistle on steroids, Gammons or otherwise. Other than Paxton Crawford and Manny Alexander THERE IS NO WAY TO STIPULATE THIS AS A SCANDAL. I'll repeat, Paxton Crawford and Manny Alexander, who combined have done as much in the majors as I have.

There was also a mention of him covering for the owners, which in 2000 was the Yawkey Trust, and not the same people who own them now, so that arguement has no weight either.

If we are going to harp on the Red Sox steroid scandal, of which there seems to be very little, where was Mike Vaccaro or Mike Lupica to enlighten the world on Jason Giambi or Gary Sheffield? Or any reporter IN ANY CITY covering any team? Where were any of them?

To paraphrase Gammons when you go back and look at jackasses like Giambi, Paxton Crawford, Jason Grimsley, Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield, the whole bunch of the abusers, it makes you appreciate the raw ability and talent of people like Derek Jeter, Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, Jason Bay, Jonathon Papelbon, ARod, David Ortiz, Manny Ramierz, Jim Thome, all the guys who make baseball great.

Fine, the Sox have no guys using steroids. Anyway you look at it, a guy with the inside info of Gammons knew steroids were rampant in baseball and he just forgot to mention it. Can't argue with that. I guess it is more important to be in the know than to tell the truth.

Nah, not true. There will always be people who try to cheat. Doesn't change the fact you're still a stupid ****ing idiot.
