It is not a terrible injury and will generally heal simply with time off. Basically the area of bone where the ligament attaches is pulled away from the rest of the bone. In best case scenarios the bone isnt displaced that much and will reattach itself and there is minimal suspensory ligament damage.
They usually occur if there is some sort of trauma/overextension or torque in the case of a horse with less than ideal conformation. 45-60 days stall rest would be normal though in a case where the fracture was very small maybe less time. |

He's a special horse. He has no ligament damage but the suspensory did pull a solid piece of bone off. Heads to Ocala in a couple days and will get 6 months at the farm. Should come back as good as ever.
