The 2nd choice in the race was 52-to-1. The 3rd choice was 141-to-1. The 4th choice was 220-to-1.


He ran very fast in his 3yo comeback race and had a huge edge on paper.



He's like the Minnesota Bred Pepper's Pride. This was a 50K Minny Bred stake and I doubt you have any Minny Bred up and comers laying in wait.

If they keep him in with Minny Breds, he won't be losing anytime soon.

The main horse racing columnist for Sports Illustrated (a serious general sports magazine publication) rated Pepper's Pride one of the 20 best horses of the last decade. If they handle this horse the same way, Sports Illustrated may call this horse the best anyone has seen since Man O' War.

Hey, I've got the trifecta with a 52/1 finishing 2nd and a 99/1 finishing 3rd!

And see him letdown when the prices come up and his trifecta only pays $3.30 for a buck.

By Leroidesanameaux out of an Indian Charlie mare. Your type of breeding, for a Minny bred. They got her some cheap black type.

Just read on the Canterbury blog that just before the horses were off somebody placed a $150,000 win wager. Don't know where it originated.

Why not do a $150,000 show wager instead? You know you'll get $2.10 either way.

The chart says the horse brushed the 3rd place finisher out of the gate.

It's only a 3yo with three prior starts under him. Imagine how sick the guy would have felt if he had fouled someone and was placed 3rd by DQ.

I understand the wager was placed through a TVG account. Maybe Todd and Matt(two former Canterbury guys) pooled theie life savings.

Thanks for chiming in Doug. Not a lot of choices restricted to Mn. breds left in the meet. Appealing Skier, his sire, a multiple graded stakes winning sprinter including the Withers at one mile. Not many on this board are familiar with the dam, Plana Dance, but she did win at 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Canterbury in her racing career so I think stretching out and the turf would be options. The Blairs Cove stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the grass is restricted to Mn. breds but it comes up on July 3rd, only ten days. The Minnesota Derby is one mile 70 yards on the dirt, but not until August 11th. Now if they really wanted to push the envelope there is a race for three year olds at a mile on the turf on July 28th, a new stakes called the Mystic Lake Derby with a purse of $150,000 thanks to money from the Indians. This is not a state bred race and without knowing what other turf stakes are available that weekend could attract some real good three yr. old turfers from all over.
