Default UA RTIP Students Developing Helmetcam!

In case you've not seen videos on this before, here are a some links about EquiSight's helmet cam.

"UA Students Reinventing Horse Racing Industry" video from Tucson's TV news KVOA http://bit.ly/pNUgj4 (Oct. 6th)

"Jockeys' helmet cams take race fans for a ride"
http://bit.ly/oxpgNG July 24, 2011 (Tucson newspaper)

(my favorite video) "Jockey Cam - Blind Luck 5F Workout at Del Mar Racetrack" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAbTOzwUw4s

See EquiSight's YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/EquiSight for more, including "Blind Luck VS Havre de Grace - Split Screen Jockey Cam Workout" pretty cool

Why bother with a helmet cam? It doesn't make for a good shot at all.

ESPN has already pulled this off on many a telecast.

The greatest camera angle of all is the overhead blimp angle we get during the Derby telecast and the Dubai World Cup day. I would rate the jockey cam about the worst one ever.

Not to knock some college programs attempt at innovation --- but how about developing ways to get fewer timing errors.

I understand your point. For me, I like being able to see the videos of the works. It personalized the experience and showed me something I've never seen. I see it as something else to put in play to improve the viewer's experience - but in the right situation as you clearly said. When the race is on, I want to see my horse and I want to see the saddle cloths!

Here's a recent one of Rosario at Del Mar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-nIAYVn-to

If you go to PartyManner's site on Youtube -- I"m sure you'll find some races from the Mid 90's where ESPN would use the jockey cam. I know Exchange's win on the grass at Del Mar was one of them.

It annoyed the hell out of me when they'd cut to it during the race because obviously you don't see anything but a bobbing horse head and whatever is directly in front of said horse.

Don't understand the reason for this. I still like the inner rail mobile Dubai shots of the horses running.
