Toughen up, bunkie. Real world isn't pretty. With the nuclear weapons in that part of the world, you bet we will continue to hang on to a base of control there, even if it means supporting this or that terrible regime.
Yeah, isn't all black and white....doesn't mean we have to be in love with these governments but often comes down to lesser of two evils. The good news is that we have recently seen increased success in getting high value targets. Obama putting more emphasis on covert missions, less on a "boots on the ground" philosophy and it's paying off. I don't support "nation building" any more than you do but stopping terrorism begins with cutting off the heads of terrorist groups.

I agree. Bring our troops home, use special ops and drones when needed. That's one thing Obama has done well.

What to do about Gitmo is another disaster. No elected officials would allow them to be housed within their states within the continential US, so closure fell through. We just hold them forever? Targeted release hasn't gone well.

Drones don't refuel and rearm themselves and have a total range of 800 miles max (400 to target). But don't sweat the details.

Drones don't require thousands of troops on the ground. You missed the entire point, but that's okay

That mileage limit is a good reason for us to buy a base of action, huh? <g>

missles are just as accurate and far more lethal. 6000 mile roundtrip range though you usually only use half of that.

When you figure out the cost of the base, lives lost maintaining it and bribe money needed to keep them going, tomahawks though expensive are extremely cost effective.
