![]() Predatory Pricer passes away 11 Nov 2010 By Alex Steedman - racingandsports.com.au Group 2 winner and stallion prospect Predatory Pricer has passed away with acute colitis the likely cause of death. The half brother to Takeover Target was found dead at his agistment property on Wednesday morning where it was believed the five-year-old succumbed to acute colitis, a condition which causes inflammation of a horses colon. Retired in September after a string of injuries hampered his racing career over the past year, misfortune has again struck Predatory Pricer who was expected to commence as a stallion next spring. A half brother to multiple Group 1 winning sprinter Takeover Target and also a multiple stakes winner in his own right, Predatory Pricer was likely to be well received at stud. Injury setbacks regularly hampered the latter stages of Predatory Pricer's racing career with the son of Street Cry having just one more race start since he pulled up lame with an offside fore tendon problem after running 12th as favourite in the 2009 Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m). The tendon issue ruled Predatory Pricer out of the 2010 autumn and was transferred from Paul Murray to Mick Price during his injury enforced layoff. A dual Group-winner and Group 1 placed on four occasions, Predatory Pricer's most notable race victory came in the Group 2 J.J Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last year when he beat the likes of Group 1 winners Whobegotyou, Typhoon Tracy and Heart Of Dreams. The Street Cry entire returned to racing this Spring first up in the J.J Liston Stakes and finished second behind Shoot Out in his bid for back to back successes in the event. It was to be Predatory Pricer's only start under the care of Price as a staph infection to the five-year-olds hock/tendon region ruled him out of the Spring. His retirement was announced due to the setback in the following weeks with a view to him commencing as a stallion in spring 2011. Predatory Pricer's other Group success came during his three-year-old season when he won the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Randwick while still under the care of Paul Murray. Predatory Pricer had 18 career starts where he recorded four wins and six minor placings. All but two of his starts were in Group company. His prizemoney earnings exceeded $800,000. |
