This sums it up, was, is and always will be a part of the game.

"It's part of the game. My job is to get on base."
Jeter

Maddon agreed:

"If our guys had did it, I would have applauded that. It's a great peformance on his part," he said. "Several players are very good at that. And again, I'm not denigrating it. If our guy does it, I'm very happy with that if we end up getting the call. ... Fortunately it didn't cost us."

LOL. This is a non story. Jeter doesnt get to fake getting hit and head to first on his own. The umpire sends him down there based on what he and the other 3 umpires saw. If they missed it or were "tricked" by Jeter, too bad. Calling it cheating and comparing it to corking a bat is beyond idiotic. I may have exceeded the speed limit on occasion and might have pulled the tag off of a mattress but that doesn't make me a criminal does it?

If I was a pitcher on Tampa i would drill him next time he came to the plate. tell him he doesn't have to fake this time. That would be the manly thing to do.

Here's a MOFO that's made a career of throwing his ass out whenever a pitch is from the outside corner in. And, given the quality of the umpiring, he gets quite a few of these calls. Down the middle, Jeter's ass pops out, BALL.

Wonder what some of the old timers, like Gibson, Drysdale, etc., would offer in the way of a remedy for this.

LOL..You think acting like you got hit in the hand is a manly thing to do? See, this is why we had steroids/HGH in this sport. It's not a moral thing to have to tell the whole country you had your hand treated by a trainer because of "vibration." It's immoral. Everything about this organization is about winning the wrong way. That's what they represent, and Jeter is the best example.

It is cheating. It's not idiotic to consider that cheating. He acts like the ball hit his hand. After the game he says it hit the bat. That is 100% cheating.

It is not cheating. He doesn't make the call, the ump does. So catchers trying to frame pitches are cheating too? Aren't they trying to deceive the ump? When a guy misses the bag on a double play and the ump doesnt see it is that cheating too? When a guy checks his swing but does in fact go around but the ump makes a bad call and says he held up, is that cheating if he doesnt admit to swinging? If a guy traps a ball but the ump misses the call and says it was a catch, is he cheating?

This is different. There is a guy acting like he is in deep pain, and after the game he admits the ball only hit the bat. You wonder why WALLSTREET stole from America? Duh. We need to stop encouraging kids to be deceitful. What happened last night was a guy got ahead by using deceit. You can't be surprised that our society can't fix that. Not when we're encouraging Jeter's little exhibit last night.

It isn't different. He broke no rule. Baseball isn't self regulated like golf. If the umpires miss a call then you are under no obligation to bail them out. As for the social implication, I thought no one under 40 watched baseball anymore? And the rest of the world watches Soccer which is not only mind numbingly dull but where faking is an art form.
