The military medical system in this country is top-notch - literally the best care in the world, especially for vets returning from the middle east (better than civilian care).

The VA doesn't pay medical care for our vets for life when they are severely injured? (don't know, if not, I'm puzzled)

From what I hear from my Vet friends the VA is a circus. 2 of them recently passed away. One of them was a tunnel rat.

I thought it had been improved markedly in the past 15 years. I remember in the 1980's when I was a paramedic, going into VA hospitals rarely, and it wasn't pretty.

This President supports the military on a more social/familial level than the last seemed to (immediately changed policy to allow photos of returning deceased soldiers, etc), might be a good time to turn up the activism if there's really problems.

In the last year,there was a big scandal as to the conditions in Walter Reed
Medical Center. I realize that large systems move slowly, but I think the Vets need a vocal ombudsman with some clout! There are things more important than budgetary concerns.....taking care of those who protected us should be paramount, and inviolate.

Illinois' own Tammy Duckworth, a vet who is missing at least one leg and maybe two? Former very liberal congresswoman. Not sure if she was confirmed yet.
