Blimp cam is great for a replay, after you have seen therace. It gives you are great view of who was really where without the distortion of the pan shot. Jumping back and forth from pan to blimp is a nightmare.
In the Derby, the blimp caught the start of MTB's move and you can see his entire move. Watching the regular shot he's not visible until the top of the stretch when he goies around West Side Bernie (?) and ducks back in.
Same with the Preakness. You see MTB and the Lukas horse moving together than they separate as MTB goes outside and FP goes in. You just can't get that perspective from a pan shot.

A few years ago they had that side view camera that moved down the stretch . There were complaints because you could not tell where the finish line was .

In Dubai they do have some super closeups of the horses going down the back stretch from the back of a truck .

The blimp view is the fastest way to lose track of the horse you are following. They all pretty much look the same from that angle.
