No that is a joke too. If you want to believe that the tracks at Santa Anita are normal or have any relation to what has been run over for the last 100 or so years fine. I am not a synthetic track hater either but thinking that any track or stakes records set at Santa Anita this year has much validity is silly.

It's a third surface. How can it be compared to past SA records?

good question.

my big question was how do these graded races they've been having retain their status? one requirement of keeping their status is that the conditions be the same from year to year, that obviously is no longer the case on tracks with AWT surfaces.

So when a track decides to re-installed its turf/sod, which numerous tracks have done over the years, should they lose their Graded status as well?

you're not seriously trying to compare replacing grass with grass, with removing dirt and installing wax, sand and rubber?

i just think that if a race can lose it's graded status when a race is moved from turf to main for instance, that the argument could be made about changing from dirt to awt. it doesn't matter tho, it won't happen.

only if it is a off the turf race. Havent there been races that have gone from dirt races to turf races and maintained the same status? lots of races switch distances all the time with no change in grades. The graded system is in need of a complete overhaul anyway

Worrying about track records or final times, is silly IMO.

well, i hope he gets to keep midnight lute in training...because i don't know what will happen with midshipman because of his new owners.
and then i read this from drf:

Where and how Midshipman prepares for next year's Kentucky Derby is uncertain. John Ferguson, a racing adviser for Sheikh Mohammed said "there's every possibility" the horse could winter in Dubai and be transferred to trainer Saeed bin Suroor, but "nothing's definite".

at least he has vineyard haven.

worrying about and not recognizing arent really the same thing. If the times are so unimportant then why do we bother keeping them?

At least the times and splits were correct, and not triggered by outriders.
