The Debate- what would you like to see tonight?

These guys are actually answering the questions
presented. Not a whole lot of skirting the issues so
far. This is quite impressive, even if they both are
fairly poor debaters.

They are actually giving a little history, and a little substance.
This is a very diff. race compared to the past.
Very.

They are actually attempting to
talk about the issues.

This is stunning.

Spending a lot of time on foreign affairs.
Not where Obama wants to be. Back to
things at home.

Look I am totally unbiased...but I think Obama better check his shorts

I think the other debates need to keep
the applause interruptions out like this one.
I was trying to figure out why we are not
getting totally pelted with sound bites and
I think the no applause has something to do with it.

That was agreed upon in advance. The topic(s) had very specific and narrow scope. It was one the major condition of this first debate.

I understand that.
It has been agreed on in other debates also
but it does not stop the candidates going off
in other directions.

I think the no applause allowed them to stay
on task. Both men should be applauded for
keeping things in order. The petty stuff
was kept at a minimum.

i'd vote for both of them happily if one didn't have a dimmy stand in as vp candidate.

thought they both did great. national security was in mccain's wheelhouse and he did as well as i thought he would. a little frosty but solid on the issues.

obama was a little professorial as usual. anyone doubt he would have been the first asked in a clinton admin to fill the ginsburg seat on the court?

i still think it's obama's election to lose. economic winds are in his sail.

Both candidates were good, I had a tough time keeping my eyes open through the whole thing. I thought McCain was very strong on foreign policy and national security. Obama seemed very green in those categories and even seemed a bit rattled at times. His inexpierence showed and McCain tried to hammer the point home. Especially about him not getting it about Iraq. Obama seemed to be better with the national financial agenda (but there was a lack of details by both men). He keeps trying to link Bush and McCain in the same boat (pretty good strategy). But, he just doesn't come off being believable/creditable to me (obviousally I am for McCain). Just too much slick lawyer jive. Also he is too concerned with America being liked around the world. Nobody likes us execpt when they need us to bail/help them out with some sort of problem. Then they want to be our friends.
Bottom line result for tonight, since no one really got into deep details about financial ideas and plans (bailout still coming and everything else is very vauge) and then the whole foreign policy/national security. I would say that it was a small win for McCain.
