BHO says that he doesn't want to postpone the debate, which could be very interesting if McCain just doesn't show up...

but really guys...it's evident that when anyone runs for office, he or she will do or say anything they can think of to get votes. whether it's pick a neophyte for a running mate, or a guy who's been in the senate for years, or 'suspending' a campaign ( really? suspending? right!) or saying no, i will not put off a debate-it's all in the interest of what will get me votes.
so, one side will spin this as 'we're putting the country ahead of our campaign' while the other will say 'we can do both at the same time'-both want to appear to be a leader, to be strong, to be capable...

It was one thing for McCain to suggest he needed to suspend his campaign(I thought it would just be the debate, but whatever), I could have given him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just ducking out of the Friday Night Fight...er, debate. But this talk of suspending his campaign until the bailout is approved, I don't like at all.

Postpone the first debate, then cancel the Palin/Biden debate until an as yet undetermined date, this is the plan from McCain.

What isn't needed is for Obama and McCain to show up to save the day, as either or both of them would be a distraction to getting real bipartisan work done

What the hell does McCain understand about this mess anyways? Would he have us believe he is the only honest man in Washington, therefore needs to be the gatekeeper over these negotiations? If they are all such a greedy, dishonest group, he might as well come out and name 50-100 names of corrupt legislators

That would be a blunder of epic proportions. Regardless of the Maverick thing they are pushing, McCain's whole persona is supposed to be based on bravery and honor.

Not showing up for a debate would demonstrate the opposite extremes to those wonderful traits.

McCain blinked. Good for him. I knew he was better than that.

Debate is ON.

McCain should do well...anything is better than how he has looked the last couple of days.

And he will get kind of a free pass if he looks bad

Not that I would ever disagree with you for fear of not getting some free beer - but I am not sure I understand what you mean.

Why would he get a free pass ? and who will give it to him the NY Times? MSNBC? David Letterman ? Morty?

Geek..you will get your beer my man...promise (notice singular use of beer)

Well, no...not the ones you mentioned. But WSJ, FOX, Rush, etc will all say that he was distracted by the economic disaster and he was too busy trying to save his country ( what exactly did he do yesterday anyway?) to be able to prepare properly.

Morty gives no one a pass

Got it - yeah you are probably right the spinners will be spinning on all sides - what else is new.

I have decided that I will now vote for Obama if he promises to get rid of Barney Fiffe and Harry Rod and Nancy Pussylowsee AND you throw in an extra beer!

and Morty.... he.....ahh forget it.....
