352 was an above average horse and sold for a fair amount. There wasnt really thing not to like about the Birdstone, other than he was a Birdstone

What's wrong with Birdstone as a sire, Bid?

Unproven, and didnt care for him as a racehorse. Not saying he cannot be a good sire, just there was nothign wrong with that particular hip besides the unproven sire.

Although I am a Zito fan... If I had a rifle I would have shot Bstone in the Belmont.. I cried when he passed SJ..

Birdstone was a slight colt wasn't he? I would think you need a decent sized mare and one with a bit of early foot..

Birdstone is about average size... 15.3 hands. He isn't big, but he isn't that small either. I believe he was a late bloomer, was he not? I think at two he was only around 15 hands, but I could be wrong. Either way, that wouldn't bother me as long as I had a mare that wasn't too small.

As for him passing Smarty... yeah, that sucked, but it wasn't his fault.

Here he is now (more filled out IMO):

I love the Bernstein colt that Pletcher bought...

There were quite a few nice looking two year olds that went through this sale. I wish I would have gone!

I have a hard time believing that he will be a good sire simply based upon Grindstone. That coupled with the fact that he was not particularly nice from a physical standpoint is a lot to overcome. The ones that I actually looked at as yearlings were mostly uninspiring.
