O'Brien says Eagle Mountain
incident was "bizarre"

by Tony O'Hehir

AIDAN O'BRIEN on Sunday described the incident in the Grand Prix de Paris on Saturday which led to Kieren Fallon being injured and having to miss the winning ride on Peeping Fawn in Sunday's Darley Irish Oaks as being "most bizarre".

The trainer did not know long Fallon would be out of action for following his fall. The jockey had been taken off the track at Longchamp on a stretcher and wearing a neck brace. However, after an examination by the racecourse medic, it was decided Fallon did not need to go to hospital.

Speaking at the Curragh, O'Brien said: "Eagle Mountain was rammed from the side and from behind and came back with cuts. Kieren had a bad fall and was very lucky not to have been very badly injured.

"He was stiff and bruised after the fall and was given painkillers. This morning hisneck was still stiff and he was also suffering from stomach cramps, so he was unable to ride and we were lucky to get Johnny (Murtagh) to stand in for him on Peeping Fawn.

"Kieren will be having X-rays and scans and I don't know yet how long he will be out of action for."

Asked if an objection was considered following Eagle Mountain's dramatic exit from the Group 1 event, O'Brien said: " I wasn't at Longchamp but our representatives did think about objecting.

"To be honest it was decided that we did not need to lodge an objection and that the matter would be dealt with."

Maybe it's worse than we first thought?

Injured Fallon to be investigated by consultant

by Tony O'Hehir

THE EXTENT of the injuries sustained by Kieren Fallon at Longchamp on Saturday, which caused him to miss the winning ride on Peeping Fawn in the Darley Irish Oaks on Sunday, were being investigated on Monday, according to Irish Turf Club medical officer Dr Walter Halley.

However there is no indication when Fallon might make his return to race- riding.

Fallon was injured when riding Derby runner-up Eagle Mountain in the Grand Prix de Paris. His mount met interference with eventual winner Zambezi Sun in the early stages of the race and appeared to clip heels, firing Fallon to the turf.

He was stretchered off the course wearing a neck brace but, after treatment from the racecourse medic, did not need hospital treatment and said he hoped to be able to ride in the Irish Classic.

However, the following day trainer Aidan O'Brien reported that his stable jockey had suffered severe bruising and a stiff neck in his fall and was also suffering from stomach cramps and was unable to take the mount. Johnny Murtagh came in for the spare ride aboard Peeping Fawn.

Speaking on Monday night Halley said: "I spoke with Kieren today. He went to Dublin to be fully investigated by a top consultant and to have scans and x-rays and it won't be until he gets the results of those tests and we have a full report from the consultant that we will know the full story."

Phew!!!!!

All-clear for Fallon after fall

by Tony O'Hehir
.

SCANS and x-rays carried out on Kieren Fallon in Dublin on Monday revealed no broken bones, according to Turf Club medical officer Dr Walter Halley on Tuesday.

"I'm glad to report that all the tests carried out on Kieren were clear and that no fractures are involved,” Dr Halley said. “He's still bruised and a bit stiff, but otherwise he's fine."

Fallon took a fall from the Aidan O'Brien-trained Eagle Mountain in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp on Saturday evening and has not ridden since.

He missed the winning ride on Peeping Fawn in the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh on Sunday, when Johnny Murtagh deputised.

O'Brien said on Tuesday: "Kieren has got the all-clear and I'd imagine he will be back in action at the weekend."

Wow, when was Ashaawes sold to Ireland??? I didn't even know.

Back to Trinity College. I must say that Fallon must have a bit of egg on his face about this horse after he said he could be as good as Giant's Causeway after his debut win.
