The point is this: blacks can't be Nine Inch Nails fans--or any other type of music-- without seeming to be "out of place"?

I guess the Kangol hat was OK, but the shirt should have been Bob Marley or SeanJean?

...And how can you know a thread is stupid if you first don't READ IT!!!???

Then go early! Don't they close the streets at 9 PM there?

I wouldn't go so far as to call Roanoke a 3rd world country, but... close.

I kid, I kid.

I have come to dread the weekends at my other job. It is when the "locals" come down from the hills and into the "big city". These people frighten me.

I'm sure they play a lot of golf in those hills too....

The only thing that would have made that customer better were curb feelers and a confederate flag sticker on his El Dorado!

I just wish they'd put one in closer to my apartment! Come on, there's room for more Starbucks in Harlem!

Speaking of fashion choices, though, Kev, in Harlem Studio Museum's gift shop there is always a corner devoted to a local artist. When I went last fall it was full of fashions designed by Sistahs of Harlem, who have made a name for themselves by crafting cool, funky outfits out of old clothing- very environmentally friendly, since it's good to reuse. There was a great dress I saw, the top half being an old T-shirt with "West Side Livery Stable" (why it caught my eye) and a horse and carriage on it. However, the cut was a little urban, and I was afraid I'd look like a big poseur if I tried to wear the dress- I am clearly a suburban Caucasian born and bred, as I'm reminded every time I go to an inner city high school. Then I took a close look at the bottom half of the dress and realized it was an old Grateful Dead T-shirt. "Hurray!" I thought, "you can't get more white than a Grateful Dead T-shirt! I am allowed to wear this!" So I bought the dress.

And the dress being basically two cotton t-shirts, it's really comfortable in hot weather!
