Man I hope Arlington plays out the same way. It's been very interesting to watch the new track being installed. What's amazing is the backtop/tar base.

Was it really asphalt, or just road base, which is crushed, compacted limerock? This allows for drainage (water can percolate down through the limerock), which I guess is the reason why rain doesn't affect the surface.

it was asphalt like they put on driveways or roads. There is a chunky rock base under that and it looks like they have to fill in about 2-3 feet ontop. They're already filling in with poly on the first turn.

Thanks for that, Pais. It seemed very strange that they would use asphalt, but with 10 inches of poly-stuff on top of it, I guess it's safe.
