As I said, I don't know anything about him. He may be a nice guy. He may even be a good trainer. But the only way a guy can prove to me that he is a good trainer is by having a decent win percentage. I don't mind if a guy has a small stable. I just expect a guy to do well with what he has. This guy must have a fairly big stable. He has over 100 starters this year. That means he must have at least 35-40 horses. Why would you say that a guy with 40 horses never had a chance?
When I started with one of my current trainers back in the 1980s, he only had 13 horses. He didn't have many starters but his win percentage was pretty much always over 20%. Win percenatge obviously does not tell the whole story but to me it is the most important statistic there is. If a guy is winning at better than a 20% clip, he is obviously doing something right. If a guy is winning at under a 10% clip, he is obviously doing soemthing wrong.
