![]() I thought this one deserved its own thread:
French Deputy as a broodmare sire - with first-time starters: 2011: 52-10-5-6 (19% Wins) 3.22 ROI * 2nd place finishes at 12/1 odds, 19/1 odds, and 29/1 odds. 3rd place finishes at 14/1, 23/1, and 26/1 odds. ** Of the 21 horses who hit the board, a few have VERY bright futures. Overdriven, who won his debut with something like a 100 Beyer going 5 furlongs for Pletcher/Repole is one. Ciao Bella (the most impressive female 2yo debuter at Gulfstream's meet this year) is another. Midnight Transfer, who just won a stakes race at SA with a Beyer in the 90's last week, is another. 2010: 48-14-6-5 (29 % wins) 4.28 ROI * 2nd place finishes at 29/1 odds and 33/1 odds. 3rd place finishes at 11/1, 16/1, 21/1, and 75/1 !!! 2009: 49-9-3-7 (18% wins) 2.53 ROI * This group includes Uh Oh Bango. Who was a chalky debut winner at Praire Meadows. He won a Grade 2 stake at Santa Anita earlier this month. 2008: 42-6-0-7 (14% wins) 1.59 ROI 2007: 27-5-6-2 (19% wins) 3.11 ROI * 2nd place finishers at 10/1, 13/1, 31/1, and 36/1 odds. 3rd place finishers at 14/1 and 16/1 odds. ** I believe this small group included two future Kentucky Derby also-rans. Smooth Air (Byk's favorite horse) won it's debut at Calder at 12/1 odds. That one was sired by Smooth Jazz out of a French Deputy mare. Future King's Bishop winner Visionaire also debuted in 2007. Overall: They are 44-for-218 (20.2% wins) and VERY profitable on debut. Ten of the 44 winners won at double digit odds...and many bombs finished 2nd and 3rd. |
