I can agree along those lines -- if a particular religion supports peace and understanding and doesn't tell anyone to go forth and slay nonbelievers, I am cool with it. Regarding Christianity -- and where it is different from the Old Testament, as you indicate, is that Christ himself never made a quote that can be interpreted as "go and kill unbelievers" or "the violation of this rule warrants death." Never that I can recall reading anyway. The transgressions of those who have practiced Christianity are a result of NOT having heard the message completely or in context. The Supreme Being, if anyone believes He is out there, will dwarf any of our primitive religions that we use to get to know Him. None of them has it all correct. |
