Belmont LIRR service to be shuttered?

Per DRF:

A public hearing on the Metropolitan Transit Authority's proposal to shut down Long Island Rail Road service to Belmont Park - except on Belmont Stakes Day - will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, 333 Adams St. in Brooklyn.

Attendees may sign up to speak by calling (212) 878-7483 or sign up when they arrive at the hearing. People may also send written testimony to Douglas Sussman, MTA's director of community affairs, at 347 Madison Ave., NY, NY 10017.

This is just the latest nonsense from the unbelievably incompetent and wasteful MTA. I realize this doesn't affect the vast majority of you, but with a track as difficult to get to as Belmont if one doesn't have a car (I don't), ending this service would be pretty obnoxious. It's not as if the trains run on the hour, every hour. There are two in the morning/early afternoon and one after the races. I swear, the MTA makes the banking industry look sane and frugal.
